I finally made my peace with this, and without the aid of drugs. But I did find a Buddha moment. I came to the conclusion that I'm really very conservative in my tastes, small-minded even. So when I played one of the (source) tracks from this, my wife guessed that it was the intro to a Dolly Parton song. "Dolly Parton! You know I'll never buy a Dolly Parton album!" And then I thought - Why wouldn't I actually listen to (never mind buy) a Dolly Parton album? I've never listened to one. I'm sure there's interesting stuff going on in them, and the stories behind the songs must be fascinating. But I have shut myself off from everything that is outside my own (self-imposed) musical spectrum.
Other parts of the score remind of Blind Melon Jeffries. I quite like blues, but not that blues sung by old blind men with no teeth. And yet how do I know? I've only "heard" two minutes of Blind Melon Jeffries and decided I didn't like him. But now I intend to explore his entire catalogue.
The bits that sound like John Williams are great, and now I'm getting an education from the bits that don't sound like the music I "thought I liked".
At this rate I'll even end up liking THE HUMANOID. In fact, now I DO like THE HUMANOID!
Hey Graham, my buddy... here is your gateway into Dolly Parton... her wonderful cover version (so different and yet somehow so faithful) of Stairway to Heaven:
Lemme know if Dolly ends up with a new fan based on listening to that.
Hey Yavar, ain't that Dolly's 2002 bluegrass version of the Led Zep classic? I hear she's got a new newer version coming out in November, singing along with Lizzo of all people!
I've actually been a Dolly fan since I got the LP of NINE TO FIVE, so it's really Charles Fox's fault.
I think her new cover is actually out but I haven't heard it yet. I'll be surprised if I like it better than her bluegrass-tinged version from over two decades ago, though. One of my favorite covers of all time.
I notice ob a number of tracks that there is a constant 'drone' in the back ground ( tr. 4 , 7). Is this from an instrument or some play back. It gives me a bit of an headache.
