It's one thing to do tiny versions of bars, but then... Exhibit 1: Maltesers. Having little bits of the malt flavoured stuff instead of a full malt blob just doesn't work for me. Shaws Bitter Shandy, fruit pastilles, fruit gums, jelly tots, twirl (noice), fruit 'n' nut (noice), and some other stuff. There are always one or two main ingredients in a chocolate bar that attract me to it, and one of them is usually chocolate, funnily enough. (That may be why I’ve gone off certain products that Kraft/Mondelez ownership/meddling has ruined for me, including [sob] the Creme Egg.) What sets the Picnic aside and slightly above the Lion Bar is the presence of raisins. I’m not sure they have those in all territories. The Lion Bar’s other distinctive ingredient is caramel infused wafer. Maybe that’s two ingredients. Whatever. I’m pretty much with Paul on this one, but I wouldn’t be as emphatic, because I do like a Lion Bar. Hopefully Boots Heathrow or M&S Foods(?) will be well stocked with Picnic bars, as I cannot find them here. Don't get me wrong, though: it's fecking gorgeous, and it is now a welcome part of my Brit candy bar "arsenal", pending my local Brit shop's longevity. At first bite, the Picnic, with its peanut-and-chocolate "introduction", reminds me of our "Baby Ruth" bar, except the Picnic has better-quality chocolate and doesn't shower its consumer with thousands of "exploding" chocolate flakes like the Baby Ruth. Then, the rice and raisin aspects make themselves known, hwnce the business I alluded to earlier. The Picnic is still a magnificent candy bar, and one that Mrs. Phelps especially enjoys, and has made known, should I decide to "will" her any Picnic bars I decide I don't want. In addition to those items, I purchased that good ol' standby, Idris ginger beer, as well as a new member of the Phelps Brit products family, Dalston's Elderflower soda. I tried one again the other day inspired by this thread and while I enjoyed the novelty, I think I'll avoid again. I wouldn't rate it among my favorites, but I can foresee the occasional craving. I'm developing quite a liking for the Picnic bar. Got a couple of Bounty dark chocolate candy bars--they're infinitely superior to "Mounds", their American equivalent. Also picked up my beloved Yorkie bar, Jelly Babies, and Curly Wurly. I'm still on the lookout for the Jamaica rum candy bar. They're definitely thinner than I remember, though it's been so long since I last had one that I couldn't vouch for it tasting exactly as it used to.
