Cool. Mo Shafeek had previously told me that they were trying to negotiate a deal to issue some CD editions. Glad they got it over the line. Good to see Mutant putting out CDs for fans too. It's a pretty cool score, if a tad derivative.
Mutant, in partnership with Hollywood Records and 20th Century Studios, is thrilled to mark this year’s Alien Day (April 26) with a new and exclusive musical release that pay tribute to the iconic sci-fi franchise.
As part of the development of his score for the 2024 hit film ALIEN: ROMULUS, composer Benjamin Wallfisch produced a nearly 15 minute long suite of themes. This suite was inevitably cut down for usage in the film's closing credits, but it is now available for the first time for your listening pleasure, as well as SIX additional bonus cues from the film not available on any other format.
Pressed on 140gm Acid Blood color vinyl, and housed in a screen printed 3 mil clear poly sleeve.
Tracklist
Side One
01. The Romulus Suite (13:49)
Side Two - Previously Unreleased Bonus Tracks
01. Lockdown 02. Awakening 03. Romulus Hangar Bay 04. Body Temperature 05. I Have A New Directive 06. The Hive
It's such a wildly uneven score. Would have loved to have a CD, but preferably with my 34-minute programme, weeding out most of the noise stuff. Or something akin to it. Suppose I can make my own CD-R, like in the olden days.
Very disappointed I’m missing out on this CD. Apparently it sold out in the UK during the pre-order stage. So the postage if you’re in the Uk is now double the cost of the CD itself!
Here’s what Mutant told me -
“ Thanks for reaching out to us.
Looking into this, we are afraid that the Alien: Romulus CD has been sold out at the UK warehouse, and we only have available stock at the US warehouse.
The order would therefore have to be shipped from the US with a tracked shipping method, which is resulting in the higher postage cost you are seeing.
If you continue through the checkout process to the shipping method selection. we also show the country that the order will be shipped from for transparency.
If you have any further questions about this, please let us know.”
I think you can order two, but it still works out more than Amazon.com, which has a preorder in August. I’m just sick of these boutique vinyl companies wanting to make quick cash with way late releases. They should stick to ripping off the vinyl customers. I just wish they didn’t steal the CD rights from the professionals like Intrada La-La Varèse Quartet Music box etc ( or however this is allowed to happen)
It does seem like the keys to the kingdom are handed over if you release over-priced shit-sounding LPs of scores first. No other way to explain how Waxworks and Mutant can offer CD editions of certain films in front of the likes of Intrada, LLL, Quartet etc.
