I finished up Veep this evening, I didn't watch it when it first went out. I thought it was brilliant, such fantastic (& filthy) put-downs. I think it took a slight dip when Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) was out of office. It looks like they went all out bonkers, in fact downright surreal, for the last season (7) (only 7 episodes), but just maybe it was the most accurate.

Wednesday
Really excellent. The wednesday addams dialogue and put-downs are great.
Its a troubled teenage goth serial killer goes to harry potter school lol.
When elfmans theme comes on the subtitles say "Jaunty macabre music plays"

Just watched the first episode of this - absolutely brilliant. Loved the use of “Paint it Black”.

Yes that was good, paint it black on cello.

Its movie-standard production. And "Thing" is brilliant

Yup, looking forward to seeing Wednesday, I've read nothing but good things about it. I was thinking about another series where Paint It Black was well used, it was Westworld S1 (the good season), the bank robbery.

Wasnt it also used in a vietnam film?
Maybe even as main theme on a vietnam tv programme?

Found it. Used in end credits for Full Metal Jacket of course, and then became the theme song for the CBS-TV show, Tour Of Duty, 87-90.

I thought The English series was very good.

Joan i finally tackled this gritty western series.
Wow, half way thru, great cinematography and direction, emily Blunt and chaske spencer are superb, as is every one of the casting, like they really took care to get the actors wholly believable. Action is especially stylish and well-handled. And fredrico Jusid music is excellent.

The only thing i found a little disconcerting was Rafe Spall's attempt to channel Tom Hardy in psycho mode.

Overall it has some minor italian western Leone hints, but its style is more like those dour grimy early 70s westerns like Jeremiah Johnson, mccabe, spikes gang, Doc, ulzana's raid etc.

Loving it. 9 out of 10 so far.
Hope it doesnt turn silly and ruin my score.

Hey Bill, the actors like Spencer and Blunt are amazing. I agree with your assessment. Spall drove me nuts, and as I said before, I couldn't understand most of his words due to his accent. Episode 4 was slow but needed. Eps 5 and 6 really surprised me. Big twist, but wonderfully done. I don't think anything will ruin your score.

On Amazon we have watched the first 6 episodes of THREE PINES. The characters and mysteries are based upon Louis Penny's mystery novels. Lovely scenery and interesting mysteries. Love the odd characters and the duck.

Thanks joan. Even i watched it with subtitles to follow everything mumbled. Yeah Spall's accent changed a lot from bad cockney (east london) to god knows what. He was menacing but just seemed so hard to be copying Tom hardy's alfie solomons from peaky blinders.

I loved Wednesday for "Thing" so might have to check out Three pines for the duck. Lol

I finally got around to watching Ennio: The Maestro (recorded from Sky Arts). Great stuff! Lots of detail about the individual films he wrote for (not every film of course, then the doc would have been a month long!). Anyway, it's got me in the Ennio mood, so off to sort out some CDs.

We just finished The Recruit on Neflix. I was great. It combined mystery, drama and comedy. Must have season two.

Watching Chuck at the moment. Almost finished season 2. Loving the formulaic simplicity of it.

And Alec Baldwin is great.

Although, I can no longer see Zach Levi as Shazam. That is ruined for me.

First time ever watching Thunderbirds on MeTv. It was never on air when I was growing up. I just marvel at the craftsmanship of the whole thing. Really enjoying the special effects, model work, action and music. Sometimes the episodes were straight forward fire and rescue, other times it was more James Bond like with mystery and espionage. I gotta laugh at how adult it was. Puppets smoking, puppets murdered on screen. Some of the dialog is a hoot. Like when Lady Penelope snuck up behind a UK agent with a gun and said, "If you move, I'll blow your head off". I laugh only because kids entertainment in the US was so saccharine when I was growing up. Just all around fun series.

Just started watching the last (7th) season of Mad Men, I'm really going to miss it when it's all over.
