Mine arrived today. Listening to it now - what a difference in the horns.
I still don't know which I prefer to be honest so I've replaced the first track of the original with that from the replacement and moved the original version to the end of the programme and labelled it Original Version.

Did tge replacement arrive as Seperate disc or with the entire cd package, case +booklet?

Disc came in a plain jewel case.
I swapped the plastic tray on the original to a 2 disc tray to keep both in the same package.

I assume we'll need to send a note to Intrada to request the replacement disc? I ordered my copy from them directly so I wasn't sure if they were simply sending out replacements automatically.

No automatic replacements even if you bought it from Intrada since most people would not be aware of the "issue" and even more would not care. Nonetheless, I did want the "corrected" version so I sent them an email and got the replacement a few days ago. Love Intrada!

My replacement disc arrived today, as well--much earlier than I expected from the email I got when I made a request (and I must say, I'm especially pleased given how much air postage from most places right now is to Canada--they shipped it free). I do hear a difference and think it's an improvement.

However, for those who are keeping both discs--is there anything on the CD itself to show it's a different pressing? I didn't notice anything but haven't looked too closely (I guess I'm a bit worried about mixing them up--although I'm pretty sure I would be able to tell if I just played them again.)

NIMH/Tail/Time are, to me the greatest animated film scores of the 80s (at least until Mermaid kicked off the Menken phase)--well, outside Hisaishi's work in Japan, anyway. (OK and outside a sentimental fave of mine--Jimmy Webb's songs AND vastly underrated score for The Last Unicorn which I'd kill to get a more complete release of...)

No love for Bernstein's Heavy Metal?

Definitely some love, but I really should give the score another listen (I own it but haven't played it a ton). Certainly more successful IMHO than the often interesting, but not quite "there" Bernstein score for Black Cauldron.

The physical discs themselves no, but as someone mentioned above, the 'bad' disc has an error int he CD-Text which calls the cue 'Discovery Of The Great Scott Valley' instead of 'Discovery Of The Great Valley'.

Not sure if it's only on my copy but I noticed the yellow drop shadow of the title on the replacement disc has been moved closer to the letters which results in it looking thinner.

Actually the "bad" disc as you call it doesn't have any CD text errors, so you can't use that to tell them apart. That Great Scott error is pulling from somewhere else...perhaps Gracenote?

Well using Foobar2000 without it pulling from anything else, the text with the error has to come from somewhere. Pretty sure it's can't pull from Gracenote, it's not on the (thankfully still accessible from a backup database) FreeDB, and MusicBrainz is showing the right info

And given they are the exact same length and track numbers (to say nothing of time), the databases should be recognizing them as the same disc.

*shrug*

Having heard The Great Migration on the reissued disc, I can say the difference between the horns compared to the first issue is staggering. I can't believe I didn't notice the difference until I heard it. (I feel a little ashamed...)

This maybe controversial but I also decided I much prefer to hear the Diana Ross song before the orchestral End Credits. I actually merged the two into one track so its a smooth transition.

I just got my replacement disc, and the difference is definitely noticeable as the horns are so much clearer. So well worth getting the replacement.

More powerful and upfront too.

Received my replacement today, securely-shipped in a clear jewel case. Looking forward to a listen tonight. smile I'll probably re-gift the "alternate" disc to a friend.

Make sure and follow the Adam B. rule and don't re-gift it to someone who already has it.

Isn't it funny what a difference it makes?? And that's really the first "grand" moment--so I am really glad the trouble was made to repress the discs. When I listened to the first release it sounded *fine*--it's only when I then compared it to the original MCA release (and, once I received my replacement disc) the new pressing, that you really realize what you're missing. (There's a noticeable little bit of orchestra noise in the repressing and MCA disc that makes you aware they tracked in a different take as it's not on the old pressing, and it's not just a different mix).

I've never had to deal with replacement discs before, but I really want to thank Intrada for sending me a copy so quickly (I've had it for a month now) and free of charge, despite having to ship to Canada.

Can someone make some kind of comparison clip.

Maybe it's because I'm not familiar with the film or the old MCA release but when I compared the replacement to the first disc I just shrugged. I admire Intrada's dedication but a repressing seemed a bit too much in my opinion.
