Just saw it yesterday and was deeply impressed. Actually, since the reviews were divided and it obviously wasn't the big box office success, I held off on watching it. Yesterday, we finally watched it. The idea to watch a three hour box-office flop western didn't initially appeal all that much to my wife, but in the end, she said "Wow, time flew. Good movie, didn't feel long at all." (We watched it in 4K UHD on Prime with no break (and no ads) and we both enjoyed it quite a bit. The movie takes its time to establish characters, but doesn't really have any boring moments. Quite the contrary. Well cast, gorgeously looking, beautifully scored by John Debney, I am really looking forward to Chapter 2, 3, and 4 (I hope 3&4 will get made, Cosotner said it will, we'll see). If I have gripes about the movie, it is the end. I understand that this is basically a "set up" movie (quite a gamble, to produce a three hour long, deliberately paced set-up movie for a western instead of a Marvel superhero movie), and that this is obviously a passion project for Costner (who doesn't even appear in the first hour of the movie or so), but come on... this movie doesn't really have an end, it segues into the trailer for part II... sorry, that really p*** me off! Don't do that. There's an interesting theory on Reddit according to which this was originally intended as a Miniseries, and was re-edited (with somewhat changed chronology) for a theatrical movie. As far as I can see, there is no "hard" evidence for it and it was said this was for the theater all along, but it seems indeed as if there were some scenes "missing" and the movie actually would have benefited from them. I mean, Giovanni Ribisi gets a big "and-Credit", but is on screen for barely five seconds (and not a single line of dialog)! (Ok, that was an intentional "reveal" (not really a spoiler) and he's introduced at the end of the movie as probably an upcoming major character in "Chapter II", but still. :-D) But there were some other jumps and turns in the story where I suspect there might have been some scenes cut for time considerations. Maybe one day there will be a three and a half hour director's cut... I'd be up for it. So I admit, I enjoyed HORIZON... despite its flaws.. a LOT.
