Is there any marketing being done for the 40th anniversary?

Don't delay! I saw it Sunday!

Put in your own zip code for U.S.

Don't delay! I saw it Sunday! Tomorrow's your last chance.

As much as it deserves.

That sounds like a business decision rather than a knock on The Most Boring Trek Film Ever.

But not as excruciating boring as seven years of ST:TNG.

It needed a great tagline:

In space no one can hear you yawn

I still wince whenever I happen upon a scene featuring Dr. Crusher and Counselor (NOT a doctor?) Troi chatting together. Two energy-murdering performers more deadly than the Crystaline Entity, the Borg (aka "Cybermen Lite"), and Ensign Ro combined.

Sitting here as I do every day these last many months in my home office, I am enjoying my Star Trek the Motion Picture phaser.

Not the infra-red battle set that came out when the movie did, but the wonderful Diamond Select recreation.

Which most amusingly has a breakaway working Phaser I, as if the design followed the principle of TOS.

I embarrasingly admit I have a bunch of phaser toys and the like, but this is the only one not in the basement.

The TOS phaser will always be my favorite design but that's really cool too.

Reminder that a new book co-authored by Jeff Bond comes out soon.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture: The Art and Visual Effects

I wrote a preview article about the book, it should show up on trekmovie.com later this week. (I'll come back here and add the link)

Yeah, me too honestly. Especially the original phaser I - I was beside myself when Diamond Select released an actual working combo.

But I love how the STTMP phaser kind of screams 1970s. So funny how each one seemed very futuristic at the time, with design showing how tastes changed after just about a decade.

I'll be on the lookout for the article. I'm adding this one to my Christmas wish list.

Funny how the package art uses Phase 2 Enterprise.

Another TMP "Happy Meal" commercial:

"It's the only meal approved for your kids by the United Federation of Planets!"

...and that's a direct quote!

Kinda funny back in the day films had firm release dates and they couldn't be fudged at all. Which is why the film was rushed to completion and really never fully finished. Didn't prints get shipped to the theaters the night before or something?

Nowadays films can be pushed back for months or even years. I'm not just referring to Covid either. This has been going on for many years now.
