One of my favourite movies and the score is simply wonderful. I'm so happy to have a copy in my collection.
On another note, does anyone know the origins of this alternative version of the Papillon theme? I know it was posted a while back on this forum but I don't think the question was answered. I always thought that Jerry Goldsmith recorded it as an alternative take and that it would have been included in the Quarter release but alas it was not. I'm guessing that it was not recorded by Jerry Goldsmith then?

Thank you blue15 and George Komar for sharing the info about the alternative Papillon theme. To me it makes for a nice companion to the Jerry Goldsmith score.
As a teen many many years ago I saw Papillon for the first time on home video and immediately fell in love with the movie. It was the first score that I ever purchased. To this day after many years of collecting, it still remains as one of my favourites. A glorious score by Jerry Goldsmith. The Quartet release is fantastic and I hope it goes back in print for those who didn't get the chance to pick it up.

Papillon will always be my favourite Goldsmith score. It has a terrific balance of melodic writing, atonal violent moments, riveting action cues, and some wonderful coloristic orchestrations. A perfect score in my opinion.

That's a great pick, David. IMO Jerry's magnum opus is QBVII -- but I recognize that one thing these two favorite Goldsmith scores of ours have in common is their wide stylistic variety, encompassing so many different things that made Jerry great.
