Oh wow. What a blast from the past. Watched it all the time as a kid.
Also, did anyone else like SORRY! with Ronnie Corbett? I did at the time but haven't seen it since. Every now and again I'll say "Language, Timothy" at some blank-faced, unknowing Canadian.
Of course! Though the best part of it was the theme. I loved that theme!
Sorry! was terrible. I just never found Corbett funny, and thought it was a pathetic, miserable little show. I did like Hi-de-Hi and 'Allo 'Allo so make of that what you will!
Sorry! is being shown on a satellite channel in the UK, if you're desperate.
Tbh Sorry! wasnt very funny at all and hi de hi wasnt bad, had moments. Allo allo was funnier in places but none of these were Porridge level, let alone Dads Army's universe.
God knows how you’ve got the courage to walk down dark alleys wearing all that gold. When they see you coming you must look like a mugger’s pension scheme. RODNEY to DEL
What about the time he was in the Navy, eh? Every single ship he ever sailed on either got torpedoed or dive-bombed... two of ’em in peace time. RODNEY on ALBERT
He died a couple of years before I was born. TRIGGER on his dad
What's the name of that bloke who invented the Dyson vacuum cleaner? TRIGGER
I'm the only one in our family who ever went to sea... I tell a lie. My grandmother's brother was safety officer on the Titanic. But we never talk about it. Albert
The bowler-and-brolly guy on YouTube quoted an episode of OFAH. The gist of which was Del and Rodney are leaving Peckham when Rodney asks Del, "Are you going to miss Peckham, Del?" Del replies, "Miss Peckham? Only the bloody Luftwaffe missed Peckham!"
Tom Baker mentions Dad's Army Arthur Lowe in his commentary track on one of the "Key to Time" DVDS--"The Pirate Planet", I believe. He says [I'm paraphrasing]: "That's what made Arthur Lowe a genius: he found nothing funny and that's what made it so funny!"
Anyone remember Three Up, Two Down? No, not the Atletico-Liverpool goal aggregate, the 1985-89 comedy which featured a young Lysette Anthony and To the Manor Born's Angela Thorne.
There've been a couple of OFAH events in the UK recently. This is a pic from Liverpool Comic Con last weekend. Here's a little quiz question for you. Do you recognise the gent on the left? He only did one episode but he had a very memorable scene...
Sorry, litefoot...not a clue. I haven't seen enough OFAH to even venture a guess.
OK, here's a clip. This episode, 'Stage Fright', was from the final series in 1991. Del wins a contract to put on the entertainment at the Starlight Rooms, and arranges for his girlfriend Raquel and a club singer named Tony Angelino to perform a duet, unaware that Tony has a problem...
The actor is called Philip Pope. Funnily enough, he's also a composer.
