I've been waiting for the CD too. It seems it is canceled now but I can't find any official statement about this. Considering that nowadays many film scores are released on CD months after the movie's release date I'm still hoping for a CD release. I think it would sell well.

Last info I had was that the soundtrack will have physical releases (CD and LP) released on April 14th (Information from a record store retailer). Don't know if any this has changed?
The biggest film in (most) years...and still no soundtrack release on CD. I know CD sales are down, but I'm pretty sure this title would have made money for the company/studio, especially if released when the film hit cinemas (in either a 1 or 2 CD edition). As it stands, it's bootleggers on eBay that are making off with the dosh for CD-R editions. It's just so bizarre!!
I thought Way of Water was about 2 hours 43 minutes too long for its threadbare plot. How you could sustain 9 HOURS(!!!) is beside me.
I'm not pro or con Avatar but as I mentioned elsewhere this makes sense. Disney needs a tent-pole franchise for Disney + much like HBO had Game of Thrones. It really hasn't achieved that yet.
So I imagine Avatar 3 will be written like a mini-series then truncated for a theatrical release.
Franglen said 2 weeks ago in Krakow, Poland, during 16. Film Music Festival, that would very much like to see a CD come out, but has no say in the matter. Disney has a rights and they only wanted to release vinyl & digital editions, despite his attempts.
