This is indeed the biggest fear. And you can already notice that this year Saimel, Kronos, Beat and Digitmovies have released nothing from the CAM catalogue anymore.

That would be a very upsetting news. This year has been quiet so far.
Isn't Rocco e i suoi fratelli (2-CD) from Quartet from the CAM catalogue? Although maybe it was approved before the DECCA contract.
You have to ask Quartet about their deals with Sugar.
I can only tell you that at least at Saimel we can´t release any CAM catalogue titles anymore at the moment. This was the reason we released all those that we still could at the end of last year. And now there seems to be total silence regarding Sugar.

Let's hope that Decca being new in this context, they didn't decide yet whether they will be licensing their catalogue to other labels or release stuff by themselves.
Laurent, it is not Decca who is the licensor of the CAM catalogue, but Sugar in Milan is still the owner of that catalogue. They have formed that partnership with UMG and UMG´s record label Decca to get more worldwide attention for the scores in their CAM catalogue.
You also have to consider that the curator of this new Morricone release is Pierpaolo De Sanctis, who is the founder and manager of the quite successful Four Flies Records label. Maybe Sugar thought they would gain an additional audience by handing something like this over to the trendy Four Flies team. And for me this compilation indeed looks like a typical Four Flies production.
I am not sure what Sugar and UMG´s intentions are for the future and if they will only be interested in such compilations of 70s score material.

This is not the Morricone of “Mission” or “Once Upon a Time in America” or “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly,” De Sanctis noted.
Instead, “It’s a Morricone tied to genre movies, to Italian ‘gialli’ and French noirs from the early 1970s and Italian experimental films,” he explained. These films include Italian director Claudio Rispoli’s 1972 “Lui Per Lei,” which was never released but has an “incredible soundtrack that mixes experimentation, psychedelia, alternative rock and lounge,” said De Sanctis.
Among other “Morricone Secreto” tracks is an alternative version of the well-known theme from “The Sicilian Clan,” a successful 1969 Mafia movie by French director Henri Verneuil, starring, among others, Alain Delon. The track in the compilation, titled “Il clan dei siciliani (Tema n. 5)” is “much more acid, modern and rock” version of the theme featuring distorted electric guitar and drums.
As a diehard Morricone fan who would never even dream of buying an album like "The Mission," this is right up my alley.

OK, thanks Stefan for clearing up the whole "deal". I indeed didn't know that Sugar Music was still part of it. Now, the key question truly is what they mean with "getting new worldwide attention for the scores of their CAM catalogue".
Four Flies certainly reaches a larger additional audience which doesn´t exist on this board, but is very active on their Facebook website. And as they are quite successful in their policy, Sugar maybe thought that their team would be the best one in marketing older scores from their catalogue.
It is just a bit ridiculous when you look at the press text for this Morricone compilation album and they act as if most of the scores on it had not already been released on CDs by the various soundtrack labels throughout the last 15-20 years:
"Italian music expert and producer Pierpaolo De Sanctis, who curated the “Morricone Segreto” compilation, noted that although a lot of Morricone music has been reprinted over the past decade, what was missing is the side of the composer that made him seminal for a whole generation of musicians that came after him, and whom he influenced.
“I am talking about electronic music, hip hop, alternative rock,” De Sanctis said. “The idea was to go look at why Morricone today is still considered so hip in music circles that are very far-removed from the world of film soundtracks,” he said."

Sigh, yesterday I saw this debut release of LA PROFESSORESSA DI SCIENZE NATURALI by Alessandroni. But it is also LP only! This time by Sonor editions. If it continues like that I'm afraid the real collectors and labels will just quit.
The Alessandroni score is owned by Beat Records. If Beat had wanted to, they could have released it on CD on their own label, but apparently it was more profitable for them to license it to Sonor Music. And Sonor - just like Four Flies - has of course a large fanbase of vinyl collectors within Italy.
I am also getting a bit worried about what is going on at Digitmovies. We now have end of October and they have not even released one CD title since July which is very unusual for them. There is also no announcement for any future release. And in the previous months before July only reissues of some of their older RCA titles mainly from the cop film genre.

I'd been wondering about the recent slowdown. I had noticed especially with Digitmovies, who had for years been very consistently releasing new scores, and I think the only new one for them recently is "Anima Mia" by Carlo Savina, oddly paired with another of Mr. Savina's scores that had been released not long ago. I had been hoping that if they were re-releasing titles from their own catalogue, they would get to "I Cannibali" - I had purchased it years ago when they had released it. It had traveled from Milan, arrived in my city and was then lost in the post. By the time it had been sorted through the postal system (of course it was never found), that edition was no longer available (unless I could pay a lot of money on the used market). I guess "I Cannibali" is off the table for Digitmovies to reissue, as it would have been published by CAM.
I hope the good days have not gone for good. There are many LP-only releases in the past years, but these are not interesting to me - the shipping costs are astronomical to Canada, and I rent (meaning my home situation is always precarious in shark-infested market-land), so buying heavy things like LPs has become foolish.
I'll do all I can to support the specialty labels like Kronos, Saimel, Beat, Quartet, Digitmovies and Music Box, who do the work of trying to get this music out to people.

Interesting plot twist, it appears that "Decca (UMO) Classics (CAM)" are now releasing their scores as download-only. At least, it is all available in CD quality.

This has been the case on 7digital (Canada) for some time – though I've yet to see the titles you list above.
CAM has as many as 366 digital releases sorted under "Creazioni Artistiche Musicali C.A.M. S.r.l.", about 45 sorted under "Creazioni Artistiche Musicali" (before 2012) and now a few sorted under "Decca (UMO) Classics (CAM)". But as far as I am aware, this week is the first time ever that CAM/Sugar are releasing digital albums *before* it is licensed to one of the CD labels. I think all 400 of their other online releases were first available on CD from Digitmovies, Saimel, Beat, GDM, Kronos or Quartet. Obviously, after it is made available online, I doubt any label will take the chance and release this on CD.

This is indeed something completely new. By the way, the DICIOTTENNI and VOGLIA MATTA tracks can in the meantime also be found on Youtube - provided there by UMG.
The songs on both scores which were in former times mainly released on RCA 45rpm singles are missing on these digital releases, although at least a few of them like "La tua stagione" or "Donna da morire" (both sung by Tony Del Monaco in the films) were also composed by Morricone.
I am anxious to know what the future will bring and whether the European soundtrack CD labels will still be allowed to license older titles from Sugar or if digital releases are now the way to go for Sugar.
