I listened to the first PIRATES score on Spotify a couple weeks ago and was shocked by how small and almost cheap it sounded in retrospect... And rumors aside as to who really wrote it, since Badelt is credited for the first PIRATES, you couldn't really put it on a list of Zimmer's best.
I haven't heard the first one in a while so I'd be curious to listen again and see how it sounds. I assume it's the samples and programming that are going to sound very synthy and Media Ventures-ish.
As far as the crediting goes, I think ALL of the PIRATES movie scores were co-composing setups? So in general that's a franchise that is hard to pin down credit for.
I'm surprised that I never really see The Da Vinci Code on any of these lists. For those of us that enjoy a lot of Zimmer's work, what are your thoughts on this score?
I wanted to like it. I really tried one day, but I felt more I was listening to some opera and chanting. I was barely able to listen through the whole CD...
"Chevaliers de Sangreal" is AMAZING though!
I much prefer Angels & Demons and Inferno (yes, I think its awesome!). Love the love theme he made for these two (which sounds very much like the Buffy/Angel love theme, lol)
My top 10 most played Zimmer albums (according to my last.fm):
PEARL HARBOR WONDER WOMAN 1984 INCEPTION INTERSTELLAR THE PACIFIC MAN OF STEEL THE DARK KNIGHT BATMAN BEGINS PIRATES: AT WORLD'S END THE DARK KNIGHT RISES
DARK PHOENIX, THE THIN RED LINE and BATMAN V SUPERMAN just missed the top 10.
Didn't we just do a top 3,5,8,10 list for Zimmer boy already?
(1) Backdraft (2) Rain Man (3) A League of Their Own (4) Crimson Tide (5) Muppet Treasure Island (6) Prince of Egypt (7) Gladiator (8) King Arthur (9) Wonder Woman 84
1. Interstellar 2. Gladiator 3. The Lion King 4. Pirates of the Caribbean 3 5. The Last Samurai 6. Wonder Woman 1984 7. The Dark Knight 8. Angels and Demons 9. Pearl Harbor
Broken Arrow The Rock (I know NGS and HGW had a heavy influence on this one) Drop Zone The Dark Knight Black Rain The Peacemaker Days of Thunder Crimson Tide No Time to Die
I used to enjoy Hans Zimmer. But now I can’t listen to any of his music. The one that I did enjoy was Lone Ranger. I guess because it was that spaghetti western sound.
