Also
I am counting one cd as one item. I am not counting a cd with 2/3 scores on as two films etc.

Yes, I'm also counting that way. So if you got so far every single score released, it means the scores alone represent ca 360 CDs, right ? Back to the initial question of this thread, as odd as it might seem, I don't hold myself as a true completist though. There are indeed Morricone 'categories' where I don't try to get everything he achieved, especially the arrangements for singers where I'm picking up only a few of them. I also don't have all the Nuova Consonanza records and all the live recordings.

Discogs lists 1,295 releases (21 for 2024 alone so far!).

And I thought being a Goldsmith completist was a tough job!

Happy hunting:

Crazy. And that's just for Morricone. Indian composer Ilayaraja has composed more than twice as many scores as Morricone (yes, I know, lots of reuse and stuff). Good luck with that!

I think I have music from all 435 films and TV series scored by Ennio Morricone, so it is "complete". I don't count CDs, however, they are long in storage. It is easier that way.

I could have probably said that, too.

Don Trunick gave me the Morricone completist collecting bug in the late 1970’s and I’ve never stopped, including the nonsoundtrack and vocal arrangements on 45, LP and CD. And I’m nowhere near “complete” as that is impossible with all the various international pressings. The neverending series of CD and vinyl reissues can be quite expensive !

Slint and Prince Damian, I don't understand that you can possibly have music from all films scored by EM since we know that several scores are totally unreleased (ARABELLA, LABBRA DI LURIDO BLU, ANNE FRANK, etc, etc). Howcome ?

As for being a completist, I would certainly second Gary's viewpoint that it's impossible with Ennio. But the same is true with a few other composers as well. I have ca 100 CDs by Goldsmith and if you'd tell me to get all of them (over 250 nowadays I think) this would be like climbing the Everest for me ! I'm fortunately not even trying to do so. Anyways, Goldsmith would be easier to collect than Morricone since there are only soundtracks (+ one CD of classical pieces) for Jerry.

Laurent,
I didn't say I had all. I said that I could have said what slint said and as a result be a bit more inaccurate. Also I don't/ didn't know EMs total.smile

I do have what it is available in complete form from all scores, obviously a few scores are unreleased so I don't have them, but that shouldn't change the number of scores by that much.

Incidentally I have movie rips that I have made from ARABELLA, LABBRA DI LURIDO BLU, so I have a folder for these scores. Not great, but again not very different to DANGERbig grinIABOLIK which is also a movie rip.

OK, I was just surprised since I consider Ennio to have written ca 440 scores. Do you happen to have a folder for 25 HAIKU as well ? I've indeed never found out what EM's contribution to this movie might have been.

I have pretty much all soundtracks that have been released, mostly on CD but also some titles on CD-R and digital files.
Additionally I have lots of compilations, concert works, non-film music and arrangements for various singers etc.
Morricone is my all time favourite composer and I've been collecting his music for over 40 years. At one point I had hundreds of LP's but I sold most of them.

No for 25 Haiku.

My list is close to that of https://chimai.miraheze.org/wiki/Filmography. They indeed have indeed ca. 440 scores that either have been released in some form (1 track or more) or that are accessible from the DVD. They have another ~60 entries with re-used music and totally obscure/questionable credits that I didn't include (so they have about 500 in total).
