Finally a Morricone score in your series I had heard about, Henry.

Great, classic score all around for a fabulous film. I was fortunate enough to hear Morricone perform the famous theme live as an encore track last year.

That I am jealous of.

Anyway I guess the point is that Morricone, more than any other composer, has more music that goes unheard because they are attached to movies no one has ever heard of. Many of which are better than the scores people have heard. Even here with a well known movie I did not pick the themes most associated with the film like the one John Williams put on his Boston Pops album. Instead I picked the theme that embodies the first half and really the spirit of the whole film better for me. It does not get played enough.

Henry, you are doing a great service with these Morricone threads. I often feel like Il Maestro (my favorite composer) doesn't get as much love 'round these parts as is warranted, and you're making a great contribution toward changing that. smile

By the way, the much disputed expanded GDM CD has just been re-issued:

I guess the Maestro is not amused. wink

Wonderful choice of film and superlative, nostalgic Morricone score!

So far, it's the one Morricone score in my "office mix" that plays in the waiting room.

Ron (lurking no longer) Burbella

Ron, my favorite world class collector! You probably will disagree but Morricone is my European equivalent to Goldsmith. They both had a penchant for dissonant stuff and since Morricone wrote more than twice the amount of scores, he had twice the number of CRIMINAL LAWs and VANISHINGs. But the very cool part they had in common is not wanting to write the same stuff over again. So not only would I be surprised at a new terrific score from either one of them but the likelihood it would be something I'd never heard from them before would be pretty high. This made them kings to me. The problem with Morricone is that most of his best work was done where he was most comfortable, at home in his native Italy.

Anyway please lurk as much as you want.

I love this movie and score. It reminds me why I love the movies.

Amen, Mr. I, amen. Oh my, the scene when they turn around and he sees the faces of his youth waiting to pay their respects. And that ENDING! the music!!

Amongst all the beauty of this score (and there's lots), it's always the track FOUR INTERLUDES that gets me every time.
I don't know what it is...but it's a KILLER!

Ah, I see you're on a Morricone 'kick' at the moment Kev. I have been too the past few weeks, though it's coming to an end soon. I've listened to most everything I own by himwink

'Cinema Paradiso' has long been a favourite of mine, I just love the whole thing. Some people may argue it's a little simplistic in structure, but I love those themes.

You are correct Sir Thomas.
I imagine yours is coming to an end to make way for the new a-ha CD and then digging out all the old ones! wink

Oh, and RED SONJA is jumping for attention in front of me, screaming NEXT! NEXT! NEXT!

I gave my a-ha CD's a re-spin not so long ago. I'm not a completist but I have 5 or 6.
The track Waiting For Her has always been a big fave of mine.
Plenty others too!
But I'm going off topic...they never worked with Ennio!

This is everybody's (who has seen the film) favorite.

I love it so much I have been planning a birthday bash, like last year's, that it could be performed in.

As you can see "Toto e Alfredo" is a favorite.

So anybody know where the sheet music might be available for that piece?

BTW Any Morricone fans want to come to my Ennio birthday bash?
