If so, take a look at page ninety-three, where Schwartz writes the following: 'In the editing process' we eliminated some six or seven minutes. Much of the footage was removed from the deadly slow opening which C.B.S. and United Artists had secretly authorized writers to write - the "fixin' to get ready' sequence at the marina. Four deadly minutes that lasted forever, or longer.' This is the version Williams scored as Schwartz mentions further that he didn't get hold of the pilot dailies until 22 January (nearly two weeks after Williams * scored the film). No doubt a number of cues were written for this "original version" that were recorded (but not featured) in the released film. Page eighty also has quite a bit about the "added scenes" filmed. I think all those short cues could indeed make a nice album. Intrada has done so beautifully with scores that had several short tracks that fit together really well and were a satisfying listening experience. Let's all keep hopin' for Gilligan! I doubt I'll find any literature on a piece of popular culture that is so uniquely American here in Oslo, but thanks for the added info. DSS I think it could be presented in a three, four disk set (not all of the cues, but a good number of them as outside of JW's pilot score, the longest of Fried's scores is fourteen minutes, many of the scores lasting an average of no more than ten minutes). Of course, the stuff from the CBS Library would probably have to be sacrificed so that room is made for the music composed specifically for the series. There is so much great information on the GI score. I thought I was the only one who wanted to see this released. I don't know about the "leisure listen-ability" of a CD(s) full of cues that are only a few seconds, but I will say this--as someone who grew up with the series, a 5 second scene transition cue from the soundtrack would instantly flash vivid images of the show in my mind. Also, the producers could piece together cues into a 2-3 minute suite, ala the Carl Stalling Bugs Bunny CD release. Either way, most of the 60's TV shows had really wonderful and memorable scores. Another show with a great score that comes to mind is "I Dream of Jeannie". That show, like Gilligan's Island, had very memorable music. We saw "My Favorite Martian" several years back. I certainly home we see "Gilligan's Island" score. DSS There were indeed some very snappy cues used in the series. A nice 70 minute or so CD would be a neat little package. Of course we'd need a bonus section of the various versions of the theme song. For some reason the dammed song popped into my head driving home from work the other night. That episode wasn't getting deleted until I had the songs. If there were to be a Gilligan CD, getting those vocals included should be a major priority. I have the music from the show stuck in my head constantly. I keep hoping to find a collection of the music etc online, but no luck. Great to see there are others hoping for the same thing! But I thought it was appropriate here, as opposed to a new thread: Does anyone know anything about Gerald Fried's score to Rescue From Gilligan's Island? I have always liked hearing it growing up and seeing the movie, but I have no idea if the score would even still exist.
