There's one book-based video adaption...boring. Some books don't translate directly to any screen very well, mainly when there's so few characters (although there's no shortage of Robinson Crusoe adaptions). I guess it's the "semi-professional production" that paulhickling alluded to at the start of the thread:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0425638/

As for modern adaptions, Spielberg gets some credit for including Ogilvy and red weed.

Paul, dude, you've got to fix that link to the album cover!
It's making the webpage all wonky
There must be better sources than Bing!

Those imdb reviews were brutal, and they appeared to have the same complaints---the problems with the miniseries are that obvious.

Yes guys that one with the IMDb link is indeed the semi professional one, and that's being generous. I know a fan production when I see one, and compared to what some have done on YT these days (the Star Trek and the Tolkien things for example) it's TERRIBLE! Don't get me wrong, full marks to these people for trying very hard. It will have taken a lot of dedication etc to make, but....yeah. I had it imported too like the guy in the review, and I never got through it all.

Whatever one might think about the BBC one, it is at least a professional production, and therefore worthy of consideration. For my money it's fine. Until the one we all want comes along. As I said, it is at least the first to have the more-or-less correction time period and setting. And tripods.

Sorry about the link Octoberman, but being a technophobe I don't know how to rectify the glitch, so if anyone wants to do it feel free. They did it with one I posted on one of the silly threads (the beer or snack one I think). Of course I'll refrain from making the same mistake again... hopefully..

This is another pic of the poster that Paul linked to (removed for redundancy.)

Paul, all you would need to do is delete the link from your original post, and then cut and paste this one in it's place.
It's those really long codes that make the webpage go goofy and cause it to over-extend the horizontal layout.
That's a great poster though. I always loved it.
Still a fantastic movie, all in all.

Cheers. I managed to do the first bit and delete it. The rest is largely irrelevant, since it's not crucial to my actual text and is now on here twice. So I can repeat my expression that I reckon the designer of the BBC version might also be a fan of that image as I think it's not unlike the Martian from the BBC production. Small potatoes to some maybe, but possible proof that some within it's crew was a fan of the good stuff.

Thank you, Paul.
It was making my eyes wonky the way it was.
Accordingly, I'll remove the link code I posted.
There's no need for it to be repeated (except for the fact that it's an amazing poster! big grin)

I watched the first two parts of this just after it was shown, but noticed today that I hadn't watched the 3rd and final episode, when checking my TiVo library.
It was a bit drab and bland and woke overall.
The main male protagonist was generally weak and useless, at one point blaming himself and his ancestors part in the British Empire for the Martians attack and devastation. Like some kind of twisted revenge or karma on the Brits.
Ogilivy became the hero scientist debunking the God bothering faithful types and providing a cure for the ailing humans in the aftermath.
And the main girl generally did everything right and carried forward the hope of humanity at the end.
I really liked the two pieces of music near the end, when the girl made the dash from the courtyard to freedom, while useless man was making his final sacrifice, and the bit where hero woman was telling her boy about things from the past.
I didn't hate it overall, but it was par for the course these days. Awful to look at and familiar in its current views.

Don't forget Joan, I said perfectly good - not perfect.. That is, not without it's problems but still reasonably entertaining.

Paul, I will go with your "reasonably entertaining." It isn't perfect. I found parts very weak and other parts entertaining which is why I finished the series. I liked the European War of the Worlds on Epix a bit more which took place in France and England. However, I no longer get Epix so I probably won't get to see season 2.

Isn't that the one with hardly ANYTHING to do with Wells other than there's BEEN an invasion? I can understand it being a better show. The title is a bit odd that's all. I mean, ANY invasion from outside the Earth could be called War of the Worlds...

Of course I'd give it a go myself if it was on anything I get. Is it true they have robot dogs roaming around?

Yep, robot dogs that did serve a purpose. The dogs do have organic matter. I didn't see an actual alien. Probably be in season 2.

It takes place today and deals with people in France trying to get to England. Stars Gabriel Byrne and Elizabeth McGovern. There are a few similarities to Wells' novel, and of course, it also deviates from the book. Maybe more similarities will pop up in season 2. First episode is rather boring. After that, it is entertaining and certainly has "war" elements. Also, I did get to care about some of the leads.

Anything like this robot dog telling people to keep their distance in Singapore?

Actually Thomas, yes. In WOTW, they were dark metal with no color, but they looked like the robot dog in your youtube, and they made ugly sounds. That is a VERY strange video.
