Today on my blog—thoughts after rewatching the all-time Next Generation classic, “Q Who.” It still holds up!

https://www.lukaskendall.com/post/q-who-or-q-who

Interested to know more about that meeting with Aunt Dinny. Was she nice?

Yes, she was very friendly. The family kindly arranged for me to meet her for a few moments when she was running an errand not far from my house. I was sooooo starstruck to be meeting a celebrity—from Star Trek, no less—so I don't remember the content of the conversation very much! She has retired to the Vineyard and is known to be one cool lady, very involved in the community.

Interesting article. I’m in the minority here I know but I think Pulaski was more interesting than Crusher. I wish she had stayed around.

Also not sure I agree with your rankings on Where Silence Has Lease, The Royale or Time Squared. As time has passed I actually think Season 1 and 2 have gotten better.

I read somewhere that Rick Berman had commissioned both Hurley and Braga/Moore to write Generations scripts and that Hurley’s dealt with Kirk on the holodeck before Picard actually met him.

Lucas, do you know anything about that?

Ooof, we'll have to disagree on that one. As an Irishman (i.e., actually Irish, not Irish-American), I can only say that the racist caricatures in this episode make it more personally offensive than even Code Of Honor. That's how unbelievably bad it is.

Yeah but Maury Hurley liked it!

And Rosalyn Landor tweeted my column, yay!

A couple of random thoughts from me...

The moment Brenna unclasps her outer skirt and lets it drop to the floor revealing an underskirt gives me palpitations to this day.
I thought Pulaski was a great fit with the crew--and the tea scene is a wonderful moment among many that she had.
She felt real and authentic.
It's a damn shame Muldaur feels otherwise.
I wish she had stayed on.

Hi Lukas. Very interesting.

By the way, when you say the "Main Title" was reused from the original 'Star Wars', are you referring to the written orchestration, or the actual performance and recording? I assume you mean the written orchestration, as they *sound* like different performances...

I do mean the written orchestration. Correct, it was recorded anew for the subsequent films.

Once Hurley left—he was the one who hated and fired McFadden—Muldaur's days were numbered.

Also, I read once online, and I've never been able to confirm this (although the dates line up), but Muldaur was going to have to miss the opening episodes of season three to film "The Return of Sam McLeod." So that really put them in a place of either opening the year with the third doctor in three years—or going back to McFadden, who the cast liked.

I have mixed feelings about Hurley.
On the one hand, I like some of the frisson he brought to the show.
But on the other hand, I guess he could not help but approach Trek-writing through the eyes of the times.
(If that makes any sense!)

Either way, it's a fun blog entry, Mr. K--thank you!

Any notion if the technique used to minimize dialog bleed on Quartet's SECONDS can be used on the SATAN BUG music/effects track (released by FSM)? That would be awesome.

I really don't know the technical details but the sound FX are so pervasive in those tracks for Satan Bug that I honestly doubt it.

Oh well. Maybe Intrada will re-record it, not that I don't like the CD release. It's the only Goldsmith-scored movie that I watch only for the soundtrack. wink
