Really been enjoying getting into this band especially with the new album. Lots of early Black Sabbath influences here with a modern sound. Excited to see them live on Sunday.

The Smiths- The World Won't Listen

I remember buying this when it was new. It was in the "Import" section at the local "indie" music shop. Everything there seemed so desirable and cool. LOL Obviously it wasn't, but I still love this compilation and The Smiths.

(IIRC, you don't like The Smiths, Thor, but then you were probably eight years old in 1987 when this album was released (not that that should matter), so you don't have a "connection" with this stuff.)

He, he. I was 10 in '87, actually.

The Smiths is OK. It's true I've never been a big fan of indierock in general (and I hated bands like The Smiths, R.E.M. and The Cure in my teens, as well as the genre's offspring, grunge), but I've come to appreciate it a bit more in recent years. Especially the other offspring subgenre post-rock (Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai etc.).

Never was crazy about The Cure, though their first three albums are quite good. I don't mind them up to and including The Head on the Door (1985). After that, no thanks.

R.E.M. were interesting during their IRS label years, though Green has one of my favorite songs ("I Remember California").

The Smiths didn't stick around long enough to go to seed, but Morrissey solo has been wildly uneven.

The best CURE came in the late 80s!

I saw New Order in early 1989(?) at the then-named Miami Arena. It was a robust show, but brief IIRC. I was in love with a stupid chick at the time, so my memory may possibly be betraying me.

You have clearly not heard Cure's albums Disintegration and Wish then. Brilliant moody stuff on both.

I'm really looking forward to finally seeing them live at the Øya Festival in Oslo in august.

Here is a terrific B-side from 1992:

Meh.

Always had problems with indierock that harmonizes around what is basically a single, sustained note, like a harmonized vacuum cleaner. Just grates on my ears.

However, as I mentioned earlier, I don't HATE this stuff anymore. I can appreciate it for what it is, and even -- on occasion -- find enjoyment in it.

An 81 track compilation which divides the four CDs amongst the 3 Bee Gees and 1 for their kid brother Andy. Most of their hits are here, of course (but not Nights on Broadway!?), as well as deeper cuts: the Maurice disc has a lot of lesser-known goodies such as "Suddenly," "Overnight," and "Man in the Middle."
