For those interested, tracks 1-6 of this hi-res album master correspond with tracks 1, 9, 7, 10, 3, and 5 from disc 1. They're identical. Track 7 corresponds with disc 1, track 16, but does not have the "Wild Orchestra" overlay. "Genesis Countdown" is the same as disc 1, track 18 except for the short insert used on the OST. Finally the "Epilogue/End Title" is the same mix as disc 1, track 21 but now has (heaven help me) Nimoy's voice over and also the short insert at the end of the "End Titles." I know there's a Lossless copy on Apple Music - is this the same new LLL mix or is that still the original album release? The easiest way to tell is with the length of the "Main Title." The new master runs 3:14 while the old master is 3:08. Gotcha. In that case Apple Music is still the old master. A new easier way to ID the new hi-res version. The title is "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)" with "Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" in parentheses. Here it is on Apple Music: https://music.apple.com/us/album/star-trek-ii-the-wrath-of-khan-original-motion/1611201316?app=music

The nice thing about The Motion Picture is, Paramount owns the score themselves (the Sony Music contract was temporary), so they can actually put the entire LLL set out for digital download, not just the OST album

I didn't really understand the request people had for a separate version of "Kirk In Space Shuttle", but now that I myself was looking for that unnamed jaunty piece of music and realized it was "Kirk In Space Shuttle", I completely understand why there was the desire to have it separate from the creepy "Eels of Ceti Alpha V". On that note, I noticed even more how much "Khan's Pets" really plays an homage to similar music from TOS, like "Some Corpse" from "Where No Man Has Gone Before". I also noticed that a brief section of rising and falling swells in the strings between 1:52 - 1:58 of "Khan's Pets" is brought back again in "Sunset of Genesis" from THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK. Not sure if this was a common Horner construct, but the extra attention on "Khan's Pets" has certainly revealed a lot. This is an excellent album release and I'm so happy I got it!

Question for both Mike Matessino and Neil S. Bulk for each CD Soundtrack sets the 2 CD FSM Set or 2 CD Reissue which of the music elements was the most difficult to find for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan?

Recorded 40 years ago today. Such a fantastic start to a film. Horner really knew how to get the blood pumping out of the gate. Opening credits like that are a lost art.

Recorded 40 years ago today. Wow. Yeah, as I will be telling people when I'm in the rest home when those trumpets came out playing the Star Trek fanfare for the first time in 13 years all the hairs on the back of my neck went up. Thanks, Neil!

I love having the OST in lossless! Question for Neil and/or Mike: What are the chances for other classic Trek soundtracks to become available as Hi-Res audio downloads? I would pony up for everything!

c8: This is an amazing release. Thank you to all involved. Yeah, got to agree. This is Summer of '82 bliss in a way it's never been available before.
