Looks like most of the score used in the film had made it onto the original soundtrack LP. So, Intrada has recreated the Kapp LP by taking the tracks not from the Kapp album master, but by going back to Fox's original scoring session tapes.

It wasn't recreated. Fox had the multi-track tapes used to make the original album, already assembled but with two tracks that ran longer that later had to be cut for LP running time. The additional cues and demos were a separate set of elements, all of it in surprisingly terrific shape. Neil Bulk sorted it all out for us.

Mike M.

"Surprisingly terrific shape." Coming out of the Logitech desktop speakers I'm listening in on, that sounds like pristine first generation - for a soundtrack to an old B+W movie you couldn't get more TLC if you got on you hands and knees, pressed your hands firmly together and asked the Almighty for it in full piety mode.

So glad you pointed that out - I was deeply confused by the cover. For a moment there, I actually thought "Wait - Jackie Gleason really WAS Minnesota Fats?!" wink

....yeah, I know it was suppose to a joke, but it sounds like sarcasm, as if rmos's point was irrelevant. I guess I dont get it.

I really was glad to understand why Gleason was not named on the cover but Minn. Fats was. After eight years of posts, it should be pretty clear by now that I mean gratitude when I express gratitude, which I do whenever I can. My wink was just for the odd reaction I really did have Monday night when I realized Gleason's name was missing... Thus the wink next to the parenthetical expression vs. a wink for the post as a whole.

Whew, I'm not getting any less pedantic as I get older.

By the way, I don't think it has been mentioned that Bunny Lake is Missing is on sale at Intrada to celebrate this release and the glories of 60s widescreen b&w pictures. Doug has a nice post about this on the site. As I've not picked up Bunny yet, I have my eyes on both.

I predict that this release will open the door to more Kenyon Hopkins releases, as only Baby Doll has been released (outside of European releases likely sourced from vinyl).

Kenyon Hopkins biography

He replaced the late Leith Stevens as Paramount Television's music director in '70.

Now if only somebody would do a twofer of Hopkins only television music albums ("East Side West Side" and "The Reporter") which were released on Columbia (ever consider it Intrada, since you reissued "The General Electric Theater" album on C.D.?)

I also see that Jackie Gleason's name was not shown on the original Kapp album cover, no doubt because he was a "recording artist" for another label, Capitol.

So glad you pointed that out - I was deeply confused by the cover. For a moment there, I actually thought "Wait - Jackie Gleason really WAS Minnesota Fats?!" wink

And Capitol is now owned by Universal Music (ironic)!

It's been noted on this board before (Peter Greenhill mentioned it in a thread more than a year ago), but it bears repeating that Sony has made "East Side, West Side" available as a CD-R, in stereo. It was previously only available as a download.

LOW QUANTITY ALERT!
Less than 75 remaining!

Don't let the Fast Eddies beat you to the end of the game - go hustle yourself one before Intrada's pool hall stocks slim down from 'Fats' to 'loser'.

SOLD OUT ... finally.

Wait, there was no amount announced, so how did it sell out? I thought Intrada was still operating under the "Intrada Special Collection CD available while quantities and interest remain!" amount. Does this mean interest was so little it couldn't get another pressing?

It was in the Danger Zone for quite some time. The last I remember, there were less than 50 left.

I'm sorry -- I was thinking of the new Hopkins release!
