The Missing Years is an inferior score, though not necessarily bad, not by Mancini. The score was by Lawrence Stone and Gerry McDonald (the composers for "Time Trax").

Inferior in what way Justin, it says composed by Mancini on the cover/cd the other guys on the cover I knew they added there material. Well, the over is badly worded. IT would be his themes, but the score is not by him. Just listen to the two scores and the inferiority will become apparent.

My tastes are wide; I got from Golden Age to "Samurai Jack"; from "Spartacus" to "Knight Rider", and so forth and so on. the two scores are not in the same league by any means.

Hi Thor! I watched QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER and I was hooked. That's cool! I just assumed that Poledouris was such an integral part of anyone's film music fandom, especially if they've been into it for years. But hey -- as with Montana Dave and Monty Python's Flying Circus over on the non-film music forum, it's never too late to discover one of the giants of the artform. I have 15 Poledouris soundtracks in my CD/iTunes collection, and love them all. Then there are also those I've owned over the years, but never really gotten into, like fan favourite ROBOCOP. Outside the theme, this never did much for me. But rather than just list all of those 15 albums (that I would recommend in a heartbeat), I'd want you to explore his work on your own. As you can see, the recommendations here are soon to encompass every single thing he's ever done, so going 'solo' is really the best way. I have to concur with Thor, Henry. Pretty soon, every single score Basil has written will be recommended by someone as "the best thing he ever did". QUIGLEY is superb and probably the closest thing to it is LONESOME DOVE, but my personal fave is CONAN. I think his weakest big score may be HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, but I see someone has already proclaimed it his best. He's not wrong...for his own personal taste...so just go with your instincts (and samples....samples are good). Frankly, I envy your discovering Basil for the first time. I don't think any of his scores are bad or boring...they are almost all top-notch. He is definitely one of my top ten composers.

It’s pretty hard to go wrong with either Mancini or Poledouris, Henry. Yavar

Don't miss Starship Troopers either. If you love big bombastic action scoring it's a must-have. Have any of the specialty labels released this?
