Yes, the new film is a pass the torch film with limited roles by the old cast.

"I'd absolutely love Rolfe Kent to do it, but he's never done anything like this and doubt he'd be given the chance"
-----------------------------
Well, parts of KATE & LEOPOLD are in a thrilling fantasy/adventure mode and his score to THE HUNTING PARTY is very Bondian/Barry at times.
I'm sure he'd write a great GHOSTBUSTERS score, given half the chance.
Bring it on.

This is 3rd party not that exciting what chances does Kent require, one-thing he'll need assisting with ondes he won't know that use or Peter Bernstein this director could call upon Greenwood who sports its use in scores his rock band that wouldn't be a bad-call that he also assists Thom Yorke, does this director want to keep GB traditional.

It's Rob Simonsen.

Guess I'll have to sample some of his stuff.

His score for Foxcatcher was really good. Age of Adeline, Fast Color and Captive State too. Though they all feel quite different from one another. I like his different textures. Sort of reminds me at time of Max Richter (but he's probably nothing like him in any way really, his music just sometimes puts me in that frame of mind). Be interested to see what he comes up with.

Sigh.

Simonsen's music has an "aughts indie sound" that isn't my cuppa, but... I recall reading an interview with him where he expressed interest in doing other kinds of scores beyond what he's usually called to do, so I'll keep an open mind.

I know he had zero chance of getting the gig, but Peter Bernstein would've been such a great and tremendously inspired choice.

His biggest score - in scope - (that I've heard) is Westender, available on Keep Moving Records.

Gotta say I'm disappointed it isn't Rolfe Kent.
Nothing against Simonsen, but yeah, generally what I've heard is a bit bland noughties vibe/atmos music.
But let's hope he surprises us all and writes a killer score.

Sigh.

Double sigh here.

I hope for the best, of course, but everything I've heard by him is bland, forgettable, just goes in one ear and out the other without really being able to recall anything or a theme.

Maybe you should actually listen to his music before passing judgements.

Already done, that's how I formed my opinions.

Unexpected choice for me, but knowing his works I think it could be something new for the Ghostbusters franchise. And I expect some interesting experiments, especially with famous Ondes Martenot musical instrument smile

Not aware of any of his stuff and the only work I've seen is Foxcatcher (fantastically disturbing movie btw).
Don't remember that score but certainly willing to give the benefit of the doubt and not take a dump on everyone's parade and turn this into the standard FSMMB grumpfest.

Any recommendations on the best works he's scored. Love, Simon looked interesting.

Love Simon had a fine main theme...
Gifted too.
ditto All Good Things.

But his best are probably NERVE and THE AGE OF ADALINE (very good movie as well) and CAPTIVE STATE.

Sounds like Simonsen is paying tribute to Bernstein's original score.

If the mini-Puffs is actually from the movie … Just … awful. Awful. Awful.

Awful.

I thought they were cute little rascals. Kinda GREMLINS-style.

From the trailer and this clip that I've seen thus far, I think this film looks and feels great.
The mood and atmosphere seems just right.
And that original score* clip ties in so well with the original EB sound of the first film that...well...I for one cannot wait to see and hear this new film in a cinema this Summer.

*a mate has confirmed via Curt Sobel (the film's music editor) that it is from the new film score.

Awful.

As someone pointed out on Twitter, Stay-Puft was tied to Ray, so is this nostalgia or does it tie in to the story? (Smart money's on the former.)

Knowing very little of Simonsen's work, I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.
