I'm kinda weary of the whole "multi-verse" or "alternate universe" plotlines being rolled out in DC, Marvel and other filmed properties. It just seems to lead to the same dramatic cheats in every scenario - you can "kill" a beloved character to garner a brief emotional beat and you can also push multiple nostalgia buttons for aging fans by hiring actors from previous installments.
It used to be SOAP OPERAS that were infamous for bringing back characters from the dead:
"It was my twin-brother, who I never knew about, who died tragically in that mining explosion! And HE was the one blackmailing me to get the inheritance left by our older sister, who was actually our mother!!!!"
Now, all it takes is some technical mumbo jumbo:
"The parallel reactions caused by the interlax portal resulted in a time stream variant, which changed the PAST, but not the present...."
Still, it's fun having those nostalgia buttons pushed, even at the cost of lowering the stakes from now on. For example, the thought of NEVER seeing Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man again in any new adventures is a bit sad. Maybe I'm hoping that some future movie allows that to happen. If not, it's not the end of the world. (Or maybe it WOULD be???)
It would be great to be wrong about this, but this movie looks like a mess from the trailer alone. The dialogue, the story setup, everything here rings worrisome. This might be the straw that breaks the proverbial "camel's back" as far as support I sometimes show this franchise. While it could be fun to see Molina and Dafoe again, the rest of the plot leaks and just what I see in this trailer does not inspire much confidence.

It's definitely a bad nostalgia move. It'll work for them, the film should be a box office smash, but it reeks of laziness on both Sony and Marvel's behalf.
The set up looks ridiculous. "Stop distracting me, you're messing up the spell! Comedy and mayhem follows. Nostalgia is the new crux's in Hollywood. I don't have an issue with the multi-verse per say. But they'll probably use it in a lazy way and frankly the fun is not knowing who's going to show up. Either they're revealed the surprise characters purposely or they have been revealed in leaks. Maybe will see the real MJ! Now that would be a treat.
