I am a huge John Williams fan and follow his works since 1989. I absolutelly adore him for the music that he has given us and I simply think that he is a great human being. I also adore him for one other thing that is just a personal view that I have about him. I think that he is a ladies man. It is just my thought and don't have any proof and don't want to insult him or any other person in this board. It is just a thought and a reason for me personally to like him even more. I say again I don't mean to insult anyone.

I wonder if Spielberg asked him to "rattle off a main theme for him" - im sure a team of plebs could be found to take that theme and convert it into a full score of incidental music? Williams still seems very bright and its usually energy levels at that age, because every part of you, including your heart, is 90 years old too.

JW may have composing retirement in his blood but music is as much in his blood as it was in 1900 so there is always the possibility of a crimp in said retirement.

Can’t blame him. Cinema worthy of his talent was fading by the late 90s and gone by 2007 or so.

You mean, make a comeback when he's 96, Howard?

Didn't he say this months back? I distinctly remember reading a thread and texting a friend about it.

John Williams recent comment on his retirement:

“I don’t care much for grand pronunciamentos, statements that are firm and finished and surrounded by closed doors. If I made one without putting it in context then I withdraw it.

If a film came along that I was greatly interested in, with a schedule that I could cope with, then I wouldn’t want to rule anything out. Everything is possible. All is before us. Only our limitations are holding us back. Or, to put it more simply: I like to keep an open mind.”

So glad to see him say this!

And I love that he used the word "pronunciamentos" smile

"Open mind." Ya heard it here first, folks. I like to envision him doing the composing shtick to his last breath. Give it the old Amadeus, JW!

And of course, he made no such firm statement about retirement in the first place — and this is his graceful way of pointing that out.

the prospect of seeing him again in concert in Vienna in 2024 and Berlin in 2025 is quite incredible.
At this rate - if ask - he will compose and conduct a new Olympic fanfare in 2028 for the LA games.wink

Great composers don't retire. They keep on going, upto the last fence.
