Dear Mr. Mitchell,
I am finding that most of the people on this board believe that it is okay to own bootlegs. I have read things like, "Well now I can throw out my coaster/bootleg," every time an old score that has never been release is finally released. I read there was a bootleg of Slipstream, but I never bought it. Then Perseverance releases their CD of Slipstream. From what I have read here the label has had some problems in the past, but this was an official release. After receiving the CD, I read here that the CD rights were not done right to have the CD released. If I remember right Robin was going to try an make it right. Did he?
I am sorry you think I am a troll, this discussion started in the Cosmos thread and so I bumped this thread to have someone answer the question. Why don't you ask your wife (Holly) what she thinks about bootlegs she bought this title, it is posted earlier in this thread. I have already read here what she thinks of this board, that is why she does not post anymore.

I have reread what Lukas said about this release and I still believe/consider that it is a bootleg. One poster writes "Glad I already got mine" and "Grab it while you can folks" and that says a lot about this board and it's members. Lukas even goes on to say it is now a collector's item? It is a bootleg. Later today when I get back from work I will destroy my copy. Some will laugh at me because of my beliefs, but I feel I am doing the right thing. The rest of you will praise it because there is one less copy out there which makes your copy more valuable. I know how you guys think.
Wow, you do know that bootleggers do not pay royalties right? While it is correct that Robin Esterhammer did not license this properly, he believed the Bernstein estate had all the rights...wrong. He still paid the entertainment company that owns the rights.
While I get your point, it seems ridiculous to continue calling this a bootleg when people who matter in this did get money from the label.
Do what you want but really...if SAE is still selling used copies, Amazon still has a page up for used and new copies (they do not tolerate bootlegs) then why is this an issue?
As somebody who makes their living working with artists, I do not like bootleggers. I do not see somebody who pays the amounts required, even if done later, as a bootlegger. Wrong to make deals without doing due diligence? Yes, but bootleggers don't pay out money to artists, writers and studios.

I purchased my copy in good faith back in the day and I'm keeping it. A rapid survey of my collection indicates that I have a single 'unofficial' CD and that is the one.
A long while back, SAE had quite a number of unofficial titles in their catalog and they weren't the only retailer who did.

I laugh when you state that Amazon does not tolerate bootlegs when there are bootlegs sold on their site.
