Who could ever imagine a series getting in the hands of people who truly don't understand why it was loved and what made it great in the first place? *cough* Warner Bros/DC *cough* Disney/Star Wars *cough* whoever the f**k is in charge of Doctor Who at the moment Some would say the same about Star Trek. I'm pretty sure, though, that there are still plenty of people who like their present incarnations. The ratings are in the dumps. Where they deserve to be. Never thought I'd wish it, but I'd love to see it die, and see what would happen when they realise what a lucrative product it is and try doing something to make it viable again. One thing's for sure, they won't think anything their doing right now is to blame.

One Season 13 episode will feature historical character Mary Seacole, who was a British-Jamaican nurse, healer and businesswoman who set up a hospital behind the lines during the Crimean War in 1855, played by Sara Powell. https://www.eamonnbedford.com/sarapowell/ Yeah. I knew about this. I suppose the ONLY good thing about the series at the moment is that they are going by the original 1963 remit of educating the audience with some of the historicals. Of course we know it's all part of the pc movement, but in these cases it's fair enough as I didn't know about this character or Rosa Parks last time either. Season 13 reduced to eight episodes https://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/doctor-whos-new-series-less-22994454 Could be worse. It could be a full season. At least they're moving in the right direction. Yeah, if they really try they could just cancel it! Lol.

I have no problem with some history being taught to the masses via the show, since it was one of it's goals when it was created, although of course then it was children who were being aimed at. It's clear that there are a number of pockets of historical fact that many don't know about, including ethnic related stuff, and personally I'm all for overlooked parts of society getting some highlighting where it was all but ignored in the past. This isn't the part of the pc state of Who that annoys me, neither is the multiracial cast. For me personally it all boils down to the female Doctor which I just don't agree with. Of course there should be some balance where not all historical stories are race based, but otherwise as an element I like the idea that many folks who didn't get certain parts of history taught at school end up being enlightened. The female Doctor is something I just dislike as one particular area where I feel the producers and the corporation itself wanted the easy to achieve accolades for being leaders in this area and just wanted to be patted on the back for being so wonderful. I just find all this very cheesy and annoying. Nothing was going to grab the headlines like the lead character being regenerated into a woman. And it's not as if I mind a female lead in the show. Mmm, how so? Well, a number of series have kept the title when the lead character wasn't in it. Taggart, Blake's 7 and Red Dwarf all spring to mind. The last one is significant, because they could easily have had a whole series with a lead female character searching for the title character. A title which would then become where/ as much as who. Two ways to do it. Either bring back the character of Romana (fellow Time Lord/Lady companion from the late 70s) as well as they did Sarah Jane Smith who ended up with her own spin-off, or give us someone new (though Romana would be someone new to the new Who audience anyway, and a new actor playing the part would also be new to the old guard). Even the regeneration of Capaldi's last episode could be revealed to be some sort of body swap across the galaxy or time, being replaced by the new character. And if I took over as 'showrunner', that's exactly what I'd do!, lol.

But it should be about educating NOT preaching OR shaming. The actress they got for the Doctor is just annoying and her companions are a block of wood. I would've loved to see an actress like Alex Kingston play the Doctor. She just lights up the screen. She oozes with charisma.

I agree with your last sentence Solium, as she is great in her part of Who. In fact she managed to take some of Steven Moffatt's dialogue and make it sound very human. Apart of course from the fact I don't want a woman in the role. As with Jo Martin in the Judoon episode last season. She wiped the floor with JW (not hard) and was impressive. Except... I don't want it!
