Snail Ride

The turtle paused for just a bite
Not noticing the snail
Who watched in silence pondering
“Will I succeed or fail?”

She slowly climbed a nearby twig
While making not a sound
Out o’er the turtle’s back she leaned
Then slithered slowly down

She used her slime to hold her fast
The turtle now was sated
He started slowly down the path
The snail, she quietly waited

She marveled from her vantage point
Such sights she’d never seen
The lovely flowers from above
And grasses bright and green

The turtle trudged along the path
The snail, she knew this well
She’d watched him many times before
He followed it without fail

Her snail friends always gathered
At the bottom of the hill
She knew that they were there right now
And she’d give them a thrill

Now down the hill the turtle sped
The snail, she felt so free
She stretched her eyestalks high in the air
And loudly shouted “WHEEEEEE!”

The snails there gathered, they all gasped
Their eyes all wide with glee
For they had never seen a snail
A-moving with such speed!

Now, that was many years ago
True story, not just blather
How their great hero, Sally Snail
Did ride hell-bent-for-leather

Dog - that was wonderfully atmospheric and provided an elegiac twist.

Jackfu - it reads like a classic old children’s poem, could have been around for a hundred years, great stuff.

Doggie, loved your Shepard. Nice ending.

Jackfu, I agree with TG. It could be a children's poem. Loved the rhyme and rhythm. If this was in a child's book of poems, it would have marvelous illustrations.

I do agree with TG and Joan. Wonderful story.
But must add there is a sad ending for Sally Snail.
You can blame it of the French.

IF I stay - would you?
if I go - would you cry?
if I pray - would you be silenced?
if I love - would you return it?
if I fall - would you still love me?
if I walk - would you hold my hand?
if I hurt - would you comfort?
if I lost my way - would you forgive me?
if I
if I hold you forever - would you kiss me and tell me sweet words of comfort?

And, more practically, I’d hold your leash.

(I'm sick of winter.)

SPRING

February’s amber crocus shoves
through old, bleached bark,
its jewels vivid against beige grass,
bare trees, and dark slushy curbs.
Next, sun-yellow daffodils stare at
parched grass; soon rainbow tulips circle
leafless trees, an umbrella of sticks
their only shade, the grass
still a carpet of colorless hay.

By the time water greens grasses,
lilacs, forsythias, snowballs, magnolias
and bulbs have browned; these flecks of beauty,
momentary bait to winter’s hunger, gone.
Nothing quite dovetails into total connection.

Unfair of Spring to toss sporadically vivid morsels
like people do with rare and sometimes
noble acts, kindness, smiles,
polished nails and carefully groomed hair
that lures for only a minute
into forever, straw -colored flesh.

Doggie, I am sick of winter. But Spring can tease us around here. (People can tease too.) We just start to get decent weather and lovely flowers when a snow storm blasts through.

my view is this.
summer and winter are there to make enjoy your life.
along as you follow the rules. "in summer -use sun screen". in the winter "dress warm". ect, ect.

spring and fall are there to bump off older people. Because one day it's hot the next day it's cold.
you know the drill. Us older folks don't adjust as fast as we once did.
So cheer up. Have a stiff drink and a good cigar.

bad joke.
Even though she was a whiskey maker.
I loved her still.

Well, from "poet" to pariah, I guess.

"My Baby Got the Stomach Virus" - To the Tune of "Western Movies" (Goldsmith/Smith)

My Baby Got the Stomach Virus
Tooooo save my soul I can't get no rest,
Baby's got the bug and is she a mess
Been up all night sittin’ on the john
Barfin’ in a bucket and carryin’ on!

Ah... um... my baby got the stomach virus
My baby got the stomach virus
Wretch! Splat! Gag and flush
My baby got the stomach virus

I asked my baby “Are you ok?”
She said, “HELL, NO, just go away!!”
I said, “It stinks, so, light a match or turn on the fan!”
She said, “Why don’t you go play in the highway, man!”

Ah... um... my baby got the stomach virus
My baby got the stomach virus
Wretch! Splat! Gag and flush
My baby got the stomach virus

Welllllllll, there’s no sleepin’ tonight and a sense of doom
Smells like somebody died in our bathroom
I feel so helpless, “What can I do?”,
Except to hold your hair back while you have a puke

Ah... um... my baby got the stomach virus
My baby got the stomach virus
Wretch! Splat! Gag and flush
My baby got the stomach virus

Well, she finally was able to get back up
Lookin’ like somethin’ that the cat hocked up
Now, what’s this funny feelin’ runnin’ thru my head?
I’m a-sweatin’ and a tremblin’
Oops, I think I just messed the bed!

Ah... um... now I’ve a - got the stomach virus
Now, I’ve a - got the stomach virus
Ralph! Splat! Gag and flush
Now, I’ve a - got the stomach virus

Yeah, Jackfu is back!

Very creative, Jackfu. I can relate. I could not help with anyone puking or I would puke. Hubby had to deal with our kids when it came to vomiting. Like your rhymes!!

Thank you, Joan! I included myself in that one, sort of, in that I've had two different bouts with stomach bugs this winter, never happened before. Got sick in early December and then again last month. First one was just barfing, second one was, uh...both ways. Both times I had been around kids at my church and some of them had been sick recently.

"Plop, Plop, Plop" - to the tune of "Stop, Stop, Stop" (Clarke/Nash/Hicks)
Inspired by Jim Phelps, posting same on the favorite posts thread. wink

Plop, Plop, Plop

Workday morning, heading to the office
Walking from my car
Holly trees that line the parking lot, they
Draw birds near and far

Loading up on all the bright red berries
Filling up their crops
Then, I have to scurry to the doorway
Bird poop, like bombs, drop!

Stopping by the store to get a few things
That I need at home
Never even bothering to notice
Birds above that roam

Do I have a bullseye on my baldspot
That singles me out?
Those d*mned birds, they know me, and they hate me,
This I do not doubt!

Plop, plop, plop goes the bird poop
Dropping on my head
Plop, plop, plop goes the bird poop
Filling me with dread

Sunday morning, going into church, I’m
Dressed all nice and neat
Stop to help a little old slow granny
She says I’m so sweet

I forgot the pigeons on the steeple
How they sit and wait
Just to take this chance to sh*tbomb on me
Is it just my fate?!

Plop, plop, plop goes the bird poop
Dropping on my head
Plop, plop, plop goes the bird poop
Filling me with dread

(Instrumental interlude featuring that jaunty little tune from Hitchcock's The Birds wink

Plop, plop, plop goes the bird poop
Dropping on my head
Plop, plop, plop goes the bird poop
Filling me with dread

Great day at the beach with all my fam’ly
Soaking up some sun
Body surfing, pretty shells collecting,
Having loads of fun

Now somebody brings a bag of popcorn
The seagulls to feed,
I now realize a beach umbrella
Is an urgent need!

Plop, plop, plop goes the bird poop
Dropping on my head
Plop, plop, plop goes the bird poop
Wishing those birds dead!
