Lol. For a number for reasons, main one being my first grandchild, girl, born in June, I haven't been able to get on here as much as I'd like. Time gets shorter!
Obviously in some ways I've been bursting at the seams to chime in on this one. Who'd have thought it? Like someone said earlier, where to begin?
Except two things. First, I've no doubt RTD will use his skill of knowing the tv landscape. In 2005 it was purely the UK. Now it's everything else. Netflix, Disney + etc. And he's no fool. Second, I too worry about the now burst female Doctor threshold. Hate it. And will never feel the same while ever this is part of the deal.
But he and his cohorts who begged him into the job back in '05, are part of a deal where money comes into it. Jodie's face has been kept off EVERYTHING to do with the commercial side of Who. Even the UK official magazine has kept her off the covers for the most part. So I would suspect he and they will tread carefully in this time of HBO team up.
No way of knowing at this stage where it will go. But at least RTD has more fondness for the original series from 1963 to 1989 (and the US tv movie), than either of his successors.
Remember this: In an interview with both RTD and original producer (and therefore part originator) Verity Lambert, Russell praised all-time turkey (in some ways) The Web Planet. A story (set on an intelligent insect populated planet where only the regular cast were human) which really needed Attack of the Clones style sfx to make it, but done on a videos soap budget, so looks like HR Puffenstuff/UK panto... . Steven Moffat on the other hand SLAGGED IT OFF after his star, Peter Capaldi, said what wonderful memories he had of it. ON LIVE TELLY!
When you are in charge of a franchise, you support it, not pull it down. So my feelings about RTD are that he will do his best with both leanings to his LGBT support, and love of the show and it's history.
But yes one thing is for sure. The BBC are desperate to make it work. They know the latest version is unpopular, and they've gone back to it's 'recreator' to put it right after the mega success of his first round. Whether it will work only time will tell.
But desperation is the key word here.

It all looks jolly enough and I'm sure there'll be some crowd pleasing moments among the crap. The Sontaran (on horseback no less) looks like step more in the traditional direction. Not bothered about dog-boy. As the host said on the Graham Norton chat show last Friday night, on which Jodie was a guest, it looks like Chewbacca.

Here are the two people the current 'Doctor' reminds me of. All done before and totally wrong for the role. If anyone was going to sell the character as female to me it's definitely not her. The best she's done as research is watch a bit of NuWho, probably David Tennant, and take the comedy half without any gravitas that even Tennant possessed.
All the men so far were either diehards (Tennant and Capaldi were both super fans with fan club memberships etc) while Eccleston was very aware of Pertwee and Tom Baker (evidenced in interview comments), and Matt Smith watched a classic Patrick Troughton story and nailed it from the off.

This is no one's idea of a classic UK sf icon. Whatever Russell T Davies has in store, and I'm expecting a lot of none-pleasing of old timers like me, surely it can't be as miscast and utterly wrong as this.
I don't think I've seen the teaser properly before. The more recent trailer is far more impressive. But (the teaser) it is SOOOO amateur I can't speak.

Anyone remember a Star Trek movie where an entity was making it's way through the cosmos destroying everything in it's path? Certainly the Who boss Chris Chibnall does. Last night the first episode of the new series of Doctor Who: Flux also had an entity doing a similar thing.
Anyway, it was a jolly affair with lots of action (hardly stopped for a second) and sfx, an amiable John Bishop, a much improved companion in Yaz (stealing the scene from the lead), and a dog man with a northern English accent. Maybe he was a Yorkshire Terrier. Some genuinely scary moments. The Sontarans are back. Not so much midgets this time. Their make up was a nice throwback to the 70s, though a backstep in quality from the last decent bunch (before Steven Moffat turned his into a comic part).
All it needed was a decent Doctor.

I wasn't that impressed with the episode, more Chibnall nonsense. However, I was impressed with John Bishop. Review seem to single him out as one of the highlights. In a way, he reminded me of Frazer Hines and to a degree, the Pauline Collins character from The Faceless Ones. Nice to see a Scouser in the series. Not sure what the American fans will make of his accent. I hope they keep him around for a while.

Judging by the tumbleweed here, I'm guessing a lot of people did not stick with Flux to the end.
There were a few positives to the season: Dan, Professor Jericho, the weeping angels episode.
BUT...It was, sadly, a real mess. Either the screenplay is so super unclear, or I'm just so dense, that I couldn't follow the majority of the series.
If, at any time, you paused an episode and asked me simple questions, like "What is going on right now? What is this character trying to accomplish? Etc.", I wouldn't have a clue for much of the series.
I found there to be too many characters, too many arcs, and too much reliance on frantic babbling to explain away complicated plot points. I just didn't trust that the writers even knew what was going on. The direction was often confusing.
I'm really tired of the BIG universe-threatening plots, "jaw-dropping" developments concerning the Doctor herself, and manic running around. I hope they rely more on thoughtful, restrained, self-contained episodes. Just my opinion, though.
