Between The Secret Life of Pets 2 and the Star Wars Holiday Special, Ford may be up for more voicing roles. If he wants to remain the only Doctor Hank Joonyah, animation is his best bet. Or just get Mark Hamill or Anthony Ingruber.

My question is: what can Indy hunt for and where is left for him to go? The Unified Field Theory? Antartica?

  • Wow! Man, 2019 can't get here fast enough for me!

Don't talk about the future like that! The consequences could be DISASTROUS!!!

Got no problem with Ford in V he started the series I think a more back-seat action role would be recommended he ain't no Stallone it would look ridiculous if the director actually CGI'D all that stuff i'm wondering that with the New Ghostbusters to, all I really care for these days is a solid score & if Williams works that it'll be extra special.

Indy 5 holds no interest for me now with Spielberg dropping out.

Agreed. To me, Spielberg (and Williams) are as much the stars of the Indiana Jones movies as Harrison Ford. Spielberg's style is literally part of the character. His unique approach to action scenes is what makes an Indiana Jones movie stand out from any other action franchise.

Well that's.. unexpected and disappointing, I guess?
I thought Spielberg would take to heart to exit the series on a higher note than "Crystall Skull", it seems that's no longer the case and , frankly, with the endless rewrites, not such on good sign... then again I was very surprised when Spielberg was initially announced to return.

On the positive side, Mangold is an excellent director, as shown by "Ford vs Ferrary"/"Le Mans 66".

Will Williams still do it? I did "Star Wars" without Lucas, but not "Jurassic Park" without Spielberg...
I hope this means that Spielberg will fast track another project instead for 2021, and the Indy movie might be delayed again also...

Thought about updating this thread title, but decided just to leave it. razz

It will be interesting to see if Williams decides to step away from scoring this, assuming he's available. Already, Spielberg's presence as director is increasingly no guarantee that he'll score a film. And of course we've had STAR WARS and JURASSIC PARK films without his involvement.

After being burned by the (at best) disrespectfully tepid Star Wars sequels, it feels good to step off the Indiana Jones carousel as well. One less thing to worry about.

I love Mangold's stuff but have less than zero interest in Indiana Jones without Spielberg. Same reason I haven't seen any of the new Jurassic Parks.

Hi LeHah! I agree with you 100%, I said pretty much the same thing on the other side of this board.

I don't care how many re-writes they do. The film was announced to be some kind of continuation of parts of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, so it's building upon a foundation made of crap and fridge nuked particles. (at this point it wouldn't matter who directed it, really)

Then you combine that with the Variety article that said: "Spielberg will remain as a hands-on producer on “Indy 5.” According to a source close to the filmmaker, the decision to leave the director’s chair was entirely Spielberg’s, in a desire to pass along Indy’s whip to a new generation to bring their perspective to the story"

So, there's simply no way that I see, that Spielberg would hand off his baby if it was the last film; what I foresee are re-writes to make this ready for more films and those films will pass the torch to a new lead at some point. Didn't like the Indy son? Well, somebody else will get it.

Or maybe J.J. will come in, claim the crystal skull aliens were from an alternate timeline and from this point on, he'll be going to that timeline which will have new Indy adventures with a new lead playing Indiana.

Okay, that last paragraph is clearly for some humor, but just the thought that it could actually become a reality and that you know some Hollywood executive might see it and think it's a gangbustes idea...

exactly my thoughts... 0.01 seconds before starting to watch SKULL in theaters years ago.

I think is a good move. Spielberg is my favorite director, but I don't want him at the helm if he isn't as enthusiastic as he was at least in the first 3. He is very wise and knowing him I can bet that's why he preferred to be out. I don't see why John Williams wouldn't return apart of wanting to retire permanently.

When Disney bought Lucasfilm, they did it to make money from ALL THE ASSETS, so there's no way it won't be some kind of torch passing event.

So Spielberg pulls out & everyone assumes Williams will snub Indy

Since the Variety article was posted today letting us know Spielberg is not directing the film, literally NO ONE has said since that post that Williams is snubbing the film or suggested he might.

Before telling us we're all joined at the hip on that, you might want to get right that nobody said or implied what you claimed.

Same thing fans get negative (u2 Justin) cold-feet, no Spielberg means Williams follows suit that's what I read if that was true Williams wouldn't be as big as he is today Spielberg is just a slice of his cv.

Saying we said Williams is snubbing the film (meaning Williams is choosing to leave it), is not the same thing as us asking if he'll score it.

Wow.. do you understand people write other names over Williams, you are really negative about this project, maybe I need extra thick glasses I don't see to well todays.
