Wow-Wee, fantastic release DD, I've asked for ROR in the past, so Grizzly has won me over instant purchase, thank you, keep up the great work.

I'm enjoying this album very much, this will be one of the highlights of the year for me. The remastering is great.

I would like to suggest Ragland's score for the Charles Bronson movie Messenger of Death for release. Another outstanding score by Ragland. Who owns the Cannon Studios catalogue these days?

I just saw the movie for the first time. Was awesome. I’ll definitely pick this up soon.

Weirdly enough, I am actually visible in the supplemental materials on the Grizzly DVD. When I saw the film at the New Beverly over a decade ago, not long before the DVD came out, they were interviewing patrons outside, and as they talk to one guy with rather thick glasses, I can be seen standing in the background talking on my cell phone (something one rarely sees even in real life).

My other memory of that evening was that Andrew Prine was the special guest, and he greeted a long haired older man in the front row with "ladies and gentlemen, Clu Gulager!." It was the first of many times I would see Clu Gulager in the front row of the New Beverly.

Fun score, too ("What makes a man a man...")

I just received my copy, which I ordered through Intrada. Does this make me ineligible for the digital download offer?

The Main Titles really sugar-coat the ensuing horror. What a treat.

Cool smile Are you "cell phone dude #1" (front) or "cell phone dude #2" (back)?

Great release! Great score!
Listening on headphones, it does reveal it's vinyl source a bit more, but considering the tapes were lost in the quake, I have no doubt this is the best it's ever gonna be.
James Nelson never lets you down.
The balance is perfect and you can really hear the orchestra giving it's all during the performance.
It's great that DD got the extra tracks from the Japan vinyl release too.
I love these old 70's disaster/thriller/horror scores.

I own the original LP of Grizzly. I was fortunate, ironically just a month before Ragland passed away in 2012, to get the LP converted into MP3 files which I have listened to frequently over the years. I'm very happy and pleased that after all of these years, Ragland's fantastic score for Grizzly is getting an official CD release.

I've also got LP's for some of his other works: "Q The Winged Serpent", "10 to Midnight" and "Seven Alone". For "Q" and "10 to Midnight", I've also been able to get those on MP3 format as well.

His score here for "Messenger of Death" I think is very haunting with the Moron chorus in the background. I just love how Ragland utilizes the strings and then for a few seconds its just trumpets and then back to the strings. Ragland felt this was one of his better scores:

Recently, I purchased Ragland's 1999 promo/demo on CD which I assume he made to demonstrate to studios and companies to try and utilize him for film work. It is a shame he didn't go on to do more compositions in his later years. Having worked in producing independent feature films for the past several years, I would have loved to have had an opportunity to hire Ragland or perhaps use a film score of his that may have never been used before. I know Ragland was still their "main film composer" of producers Menahem Golan and Avi Lerner for many years as well. Even Marco Beltrami who has gone on to have a successful career scoring movies, got his start working for Ragland as an orchestrator. Hope to see more Ragland releases and I'm still curious who owns Ragland's old Tru-Luv records titles?

Ford, it's gotta be said that you're really killin' it with these Dragon's Domian releases (as the hip kids say these days). Looking forward to picking this up!

Question for Ragland enthusiasts: Did he ever do any other big orchestral scores along these lines, aside from Q: THE WINGED SERPENT of course? The few other things I know of by him all tend to be more 'of the era' (i.e. funk type stuff that isn't really my cuppa tea).

His score for 1988's "Messenger of Death" which was one of the many Charles Bronson action movies Ragland scored for Cannon Films with director J. Lee Thompson was a big orchestral score with (I believe) a Mormon chorus in the background (the film was about two Mormon Polygamist families pitted against one another over a conspiracy). But its one of my favorite Ragland scores in addition to his fantastic score for "Grizzly" which I still need to pick up the recent CD/MP3 release! I have the old LP and I was fortunate to have someone who works with me in the film industry convert it into MP3 files years ago, but the files still have the 'static' LP sound, so I'm still looking forward to picking up the new CD release of the film.

Messenger of Death theme:

Incidentally, I recently acquired Ragland's promo demo he did before he retired. Apparently there are some unused film scores that Ragland did that I'd really like to know who owns them since his passing in 2012. I'd love to use them for some of my feature film projects and Ragland 'score' one more movie.

Woah! Cool beans! I'll pick this up later. This one's a minor fav of mine as far as beastly music goes.

Robert O. Ragland is a very overlooked composer, we're looking into other titles of his.

Ford you 've got to release his Truly Magnificent Epic Symphonic Score for the 1980 movie
HIGH ICE!
It s really breathtaking wall to wall action music one of the best scores Robert Ragland has ever written
and It certainly deserves to be released on CD!

Yup, would definitely pick this up. Great dramatic late 70's/early 80's sound. Wafts of GRIZZLY in places.

Actually, it basically sounds like GRIZZLY II: THE SEQUEL SCORE.

That MESSENGER OF DEATH theme posted above is also really good. I always thought GRIZZLY was a sort of orchestral one-off for Ragland but clearly he had a consistent voice in this arena.

Bring these on and take my money!
