I think Private Life has now been given the most definitive treatment it's likely to ever receive, so it's off the list. This one was a surprise for me. Here's hoping I can update this list more this coming year...

I'm so glad I was wrong about this, and that Quartet has revisited the title, restored with new tech by the wizard Chris Malone, and fixed "Gabrielle" (replacing their Frankenstein's monster version spliced with the Heifetz 50s performance of the violin concerto, with the original film recording now cleaned up by Chris).

Oh my goodness… Roger Feigelson has just announced a definitive 2CD set (with a decent cover at last) for Rozsa’s final film score!!

http://www.intrada.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8888

Such a pleasure to be able to update the first post in this thread again.

I had written,
“Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid -- Rozsa's final score (does anyone know why he's credited with a 1989 documentary score at IMDb?) was released as Vol. 2 of Prometheus's Rozsa series. I'm not sure if it was complete, but I've heard there are copies of the recording sessions out there that are much longer. Even if it was complete, this could probably use a revisit from LLL or Intrada (film was Universal).”

Thanks for letting us know! I'm a big Rozsa fan and have wanted "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" for quite awhile.

Absolutely wonderful news for us older collectors who appreciate lyricism, motifs and melody.

You can add me to that list of older collectors who appreciate lyricism, motifs, and melody.

Two years after Intrada records released Miklos Rozsa's final film score (they still have some copies left in their store, by the way), Varese Sarabande has stepped up and finally released the film recording of his only other film score from the 80s:
https://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=157252&forumID=1&archive=0

I had written:
"Eye of the Needle -- This was in fact given a new remastered release this past year by Varese Sarabande. Unfortunately it was in their Encore series, and it was a reissue of the re-recording they had produced for LP back in the early 80s. While certainly lovely to have, according to Roger at Intrada due to their LP recording Varese also controls rights in perpetuity to the original film recordings, which has never been released at all, complete or otherwise. Varese is apparently the only company allowed to give us the complete score, and instead of giving us a definitive two disc set with both the film and album recordings, they gave us just the same program that was previously available. We may be waiting a long time for a definitive Eye of the Needle. The film is owned by MGM so if not for the Varese problem I suspect we would have seen a perfect release some time ago."

I resented their Encore reissue at the time to be honest since we knew the music survived and MGM is an easy/friendly licensor. I'm so glad it's been rectified all these years later with what looks like a fantastic release, restored and produced by Mike Matessino, with liner notes by Frank DeWald!
