Finally!
Someone picks the correct KONG - the '76 one!

There we are ... agreeing again: King Kong (1976) is the Kong score to choose!

When I compiled my list I pondered over this superb Barry score but it just missed out - such strong competition smile

Thor is right, we love a pointless list here, dont we.
Again and again and again.
Best, favourite, top, most important...all means the same thing. smile

I don't mind a list because it inspires me to give me something I might not listen to a try.

They can be fun, and the above is nice as well.

Well if I'm thinking more of listening to the albums, & the ones I enjoy the most, it would be something like:

The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex (1939) Korngold. Both the Gerhardt & Previn recordings.
Knights Of The Round Table (1953) Rozsa FSM
One-Eyed Jacks (1960) Friedhofer. Kritzerland
Rio Conchos (1964) Goldsmith Kritzerland
Our Man Flint/In Like Flint (1966/67) Goldsmith. Intrada (mostly for In Like Flint)
Metti Una Sera A Cena (1969) Morricone. Cinevox (a nice expanded edition)
GiĆ¹ La Testa (1971) Morricone. Cinevox (the great two disc edition)
The Four Musketeers (1974) Lalo Schifrin. Label X
King Kong (1976) Barry. FSM
The Last of the Mohicans (1992) Jones/Edelman. Morgan Creek.

That's keeping it to ten (there's lots more).

...& I love lists, making them & reading other people's.

1. OHMSS
2. You Only Live Twice
3. Goldfinger
4. The Living Daylights
5. Diamonds are Forever
6. Thunderball

+ (sorry more JB)
7. The Chase
8. Deadfall

+
9. The Thomas Crown Affair
10. Transporter 2 (only the Alexandre Azaria cues) Anyone else think Azaria would be a good choice to score a Bond film?

On my list, previously noted, I limited myself to one score per composer. Since there is a lot of Barry popping up, I'll list my 10 favorite JB scores. Not ranked. Like Sophie, I had to make tough choices:

The Lion in Winter
The Last Valley
You Only Live Twice
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Body Heat
The Knack
Deadfall
The Ipcress File
Goldfinger
Dances With Wolves

I did two shows on this very topic for the 20th anniversary of CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO back in 2016.

Here is part one

Here is part two
http://www.cinematicsound.net/ep-30-20th-anniversary-special-part-ii/

And if you don't want to listen to the shows you can just click on the playlist bar on each page to see the selections I played! wink

7. Rambo: First Blood Part 2 (Intrada expanded edition)

8. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (Intrada expanded edition)

9. Robocop

10. Star Trek: Into Darkness (Varese expanded version)

Valid point, as your list surely proves.

Did you type it in invisible ink?

What? Seriously?

I keep trying to make a list of 10, but I find such great picks in members' top 10 lists that I just can't narrow the list down to 10. Just when I think I have the 10, a member posts new scores that I also love. For me there are too many "worthy nominees" in these amazing lists.

This will no doubt be a variation of a top ten list I have written before!

Superman The Movie
Legends of the Fall
Braveheart
Dances With Wolves
The Living Daylights
Star Trek II/Star Trek III (depends how I feel!)
Rambo First Blood Part II
Apollo 13
Star Trek The Motion Picture
Superman II

But maybe I should have included

The Empire Strikes Back
The Perfect Storm
Titanic
Krull
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Jaws
Cocoon
Conan The Barbarian
Back to the Future
Silverado

This is too hard!!

I actually love list threads these days. Far more interesting than endless expansion talk or ordering issues, which seems to fill up about 90% of the topics.

I did my top 10 in my very first episode of Celluloid Tunes back in 2013: http://celluloidtunes.no/celluloid-tunes-01-topp-10-soundtracks/

Here's my Top 50 from MUBI: https://mubi.com/lists/top-50-favourite-soundtracks

I would say the list is more or less the same today, but I'd probably make SOME amendments and updates.

Hardly surprising that in sixteen years, at least some of my choices have changed. But not all. Still in no particular order:

THE FURY (John Williams)
ALIEN (Jerry Goldsmith)
VERTIGO (Bernard Herrmann)
O.H.M.S.S. (John Barry)
PRINCE OF DARKNESS (John Carpenter)
CONAN THE BARBARIAN (Basil Poledouris)
DRESSED TO KILL (Pino Donaggio)
STAR TREK 2 (James Horner)
LIFEFORCE (Henry Mancini)
BLADE RUNNER (Vangelis)
