https://www.youtube.com/user/Crockettt184/videos?shelf_id=1&sort=dd&view=0

I came across this at the miamiviceonline.com fan forum.

Apparently, this ingenious fan was able to extract music cues from the 5.1 digital bit stream (i.e. no dialog) from the dvds.
So, here is your chance to hear unreleased ost cues (including the dreaded Tim Truman smile )

The YOU TUBE sight also includes some remarkable 'cover' versions by a gent known as Dadrian Wilson. He includes two of my most wanted cues from FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS ("Remission") & DEFINITELY MIAMI !!!!!!

Great news.

I'm rather fed up with having to compile these cues on a CDR myself though. :-D

Would love to be able to buy a CD of it.

Truman is not dreaded at all, his Redemption Of Blood is brilliant:

You do realise that the Escape From Television album is a Miami Vice score disc in all but name?

Rest assured I plan to finish the series, so with that in mind I have four episodes to be finished off. And now, here are two of them:

"Glades" (the Hammer)

Stand out cues:
  • The cue as Crocket and Tubbs are trekking through the glades on foot trying to get back to town, having being stranded by locals.
  • The warm synth pads cue as they are in a boat going through the swamp:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nK9f-LC3lzE (mediocre sound quality TV rip)
  • The short cue as the local Glenn arrives back in town.
  • Crocket and the friendly locals sneaking up on the hostage house late at night; comes in two distinctly different parts.
  • The storming and rescue cue:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDmERAoSiZw (mediocre sound quality TV rip)

It took over eighteen minutes for the first cue of the episode to be heard. I didn't care for it, so it's not listed. To computer game synthy.

The bailiff tells everybody in the court to rise as the Judge leaves. The court transcriptionist sits.

One of the bad guys says he needs to borrow Glenn's truck around two in the morning, 'cause the shipment is coming in. The shipment actually comes in at "Dawn" as Crocket says.

Crocket: "Help you? Lady -- our job is to bust people like you!"

"Golden Triangle: Part II" (the Hammer)

    Stand out cues:
  • Castillo telling his Golden Triangle story and the meeting slow percussion work ethnic flavor.
  • The cue as Castillo walks up to the house his wife is in. The second half of it can be heard here (it's crossfaded needlessly into a totally different style cue from another episode):
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DU1qffmFC14
  • The montage cue as the crew keeps an eye on the family and relatives of the bad guy, waiting for them to break the law.
  • The cue at dinner at a restaurant where Castillo talks about what they are doing. It's mixed low.
  • A dark menacing synth line opens a cue at night for a bust. Some drum kit and faux electric guitar for a steady beat takes over.
  • The series' theme-ish variation as Crockett and Tubbs sneak in on Menton. That's one fancy house or apartment.
  • The cue for putting the grandsons back on the street and the crew watching where they go.
  • The closing cue which reprises the theme from earlier with his wife (that Youtube clip linked above).

Crockett: "You got a permit for this?"
Menton: "As a matter of fact -- I do."
Crockett: "Show it to me later," hauling him off.

Lao Li: "Old enemies come to know one another very well over the years. And there comes regard. Even for an adversary."
    Castillo: "Really?"
Lao Li: "Yes. Maybe our relationship will continue."
    Castillo: "The adversarial part?"

    "Rites of Passage" (the Hammer)
    http://sharetv.com/watch/121675

Highlights (please note: the times are for the counting down clock, not the time when you hover your mouse over the progress bar):
  • 38:22 in.
  • About 33:40 in.
  • 20:33 in.
  • About 5:50 in.
  • About 4:00 in.

Switek: "You know, I have a dress just like that at home."

One more episode left and I'll actually finish the series!

    "Nobody Lives Forever" (the Hammer)
    http://sharetv.com/watch/121754

Highlights (please note: the times are for the counting down clock, not the time when you hover your mouse over the progress bar):
  • 42:50 in.
  • 36:14 in: some weird percussion stuff.
  • 34:36 in:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0alzXGiu0gI
I'm pretty sure that ripped piece also combined a similar cue not long after.
  • 26:00 in.
  • About 23:00 in: more of that weird percussion stuff.
  • 16:00 in: short and simply, but if you enjoy his kind of stuff, you'll enjoy this cue.
  • 15:00 in.
  • About 12:40 in: also has more of that weird percussion stuff.
  • About 7:30 in.
  • 3:16 in: more of that weird percussion stuff.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFU8j7ClZEw
(that's Tubbs playing sax', not sax' as part of the cue)

And I don't remember hearing this version on the episode:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8icL-r5Wl4

If you can't get the rights to the original Bad to the Bone song, don't do what was done here -- make a noticeably inferior re-recording. It's very distracting.

Tubbs did not attend the Prometheus School of Running Away from Things.

Switek: "You ever notice how fetching Betty and Veronica look in mini skirts?"
    Tubbs: "Beyond sick."

Tubbs: "This is nice. Real nice. What are you doing here?"

Well, I've finally finished the series. Now all that remains if for a label head to jump in and tell us whether or not we can hold our collective breaths over a set of the original scoring.

But I'm not done yet, there's still one more things to address, but I'm waiting on an e-mail before I can. I have no idea when I'll get a reply, if at all.

It looks unlikely. Universal doesn't care.

Even the 2cd Complete Collection released years ago, the 2nd disc of unreleased score pieces was basically re recordings by Jan Hammer himself as Universal refused to release the unreleased archive tracks, like in that video above of "Brenda" which has added piano compared with the accurate cover version in the previous video.

Pretty much all the unreleased score cues by Jan Hammer and Truman will be on tape in Universal's archives.

Universal even used these unreleased score tracks in the now long gone Universal Studios Miami Vice live show from 1988 to 1995 which was before it was changed to Waterworld.

    Listen here,

you can here an unreleased score track, this is from 1995, so obviously Universal has all the tracks and could have put it out years ago, but for some reason can't be bothered to release it. One thing i've never understood is why Synthesizer or one man band scores never get released, its not like there's an orchestra to pay. Its pretty pathetic and sad just thinking about how much great music is being widtheld from fans. Disgusting really.

Heck, its hardly going to cost them anything to dump it and sell as lossless audio as online only, no need to even bother with CDs if they don't want to spend money.

At least give the music to the fans.

Last year I finally found out that the MV track I have been looking for since 1988 is called "Candy". Both versions on youtube are glorious. My quest also lead me to several other greats, most prominently "The great boat race" which is an almost manic sugar rush of a ride.

Almost as good as those two are (from 4 to 2 stars) "South beach" "Rum cay", "Night talk", "Brenda".
