Two actually as I mentioned. The boarding the boat, "polka" music and the "finding fish" cue. It appears the entirety of the score is otherwise present and that's awesome because there's many wonderful statements in the previously unreleased music.

The Polka music was by Christopher L. Stone (Disney's Tale Spin cartoon, another play on the word Tale / Tail)

The polka source music I can live without, but I always loved that little burst of chase music for Papa Mousekewicz chasing after Fievel, so it's regrettable it's the one score cue missing.

Yes, we can continue to exclaim our desires for "An American Tail Complete!" for years to come. wink

Mine arrived today, bought it super quick. I really enjoy this score. I also find this is one where I need to arrange a few songs towards the end at least on first listen. I would have preferred if the instrumental version of Somewhere Out There was the orchestral not the pop version but what can you do? With all the songs and Warren T Rat track moved to the end it is almost perfect.
The one part that will forever drive me nuts is how Releasing the Secret Weapon ends with a short reprise of There are No Cats in America and some Chinese style music.

Damn the movie for dictating what direction the score should take!

Personally this reprise of "There are No Cats..." (with its stereo panning) is one of my favorite moments ! smile

By the way, not having heard it yet, I wonder why you isolate "Warren T Rat" from the rest of the score... Is it related to a song ? Personnally, in scores like this with orchestral songs thematicaly tied to the score, I prefer to listen to them in movie order.

I'm only suggesting the end of that cue with There are No Cats would work better as a separate track. It interrupts the flow of the music which otherwise flows well from one track to the other. That is the same reason I moved Warren T Rat. I don't find the style of music fits with the orchestral portions that precede it and follow it. Once I removed the other ones I mentioned to the end, I play the tracks in one go and it flows quite nicely.

It is for this same reason of flow that Intrada chose to move the synth tracks in Apollo 13 to the end after the main program. I didn't mean to suggest that the music shouldn't be how it is, but simply that I am annoyed by being unable to move that part I mentioned to the end because it is at the end of a longer track. Of course if Intrada were to leave out these songs someone would be annoyed so I understand why they are included as this is a soundtrack release. I prefer in 90% of scores for the songs to be at the end with the source cues but I know those choosing how to present the music may disagree with me on that.

After posting what I did last night, I listened to everything again and it flows very nicely. I don't buy these scores because of nostalgia for the movies. I buy them for the music, specifically, Horner's orchestral music. I treat these scores as classical works. Bits like the pop version of Somewhere Out There don't fit with that style so I move them out of my playlist.

@ Sirusjr - Should be easy enough to clip off the end of that cue and fade it out.

I just thought of something...perhaps the "missing" 20-second cue might have been tracked in from the later scene where Fievel is being pursued by Warren T. Rat's henchmen? It actually sounds very similar, and maybe Horner just decided to track in a portion of that cue instead of writing something so short? Can anyone confirm?

Possibly! I was going to re-watch that scene, I posted a link in the other Intrada thread but low and behold the YouTubers channel was deleted! WTF? Wonder if it had anything to do with the release of this score?

Edit: Found it on anther channel-

BTW, this clip is from the bastardized audio track that's been out since the DVD. Notice how they added a sound effect of the port hole window closing which drowns out Horner's music which punctuated that visual in the original theatrical version. The sound effect wasn't needed.

Yeah, I despise the audio track on the DVD and Blu. mad I hope one day they'll re-issue the film (on 4K?) and restore the original audio.

Can anyone find a clip of the chase scene with Fievel escaping Warren T. Rat's lair?

EDIT: Found it!

If it's not the same cue, it's damn close.

Thank you for the details. Although I consider that songs are an integral part of this work, since it is ultimately a kind of musical, I fully understand your point of view. Regarding the pop version of "Somewhere ... ", I totally agree with you: his place is at the end of the disc.

The music when Fievel discovers the barrel of fish is on the album. Which is really lovely music, which leads to the brief action cue as Fievel scurries away. After several listens I believe that music was indeed tracked from his attempted escape from the cats lair. Well done!!!

Now the other brief piece of music I noticed not on the expansion is in the Warren T. Rat / It Will Go Away cue. (At least not how its tracked in the film) When the lady pigeon flies Fievel to the ground we get a brief whimsical restatement of the main theme. I must assume that was tracked in as well. It would be right in the middle of Warren T. Rat theme on the soundtrack.

Start @ about the 1:54 mark:

Before anyone gets on their high horses none of this is a complaint. I'm just passionate about this subject and analyzing the score/film

Edit: Fievel's Escape has a very brief bit that sounds like the beginning inspiration for Titanic. big grin

If anyone has received the Intrada album, It'd be interesting to hear if the liner notes talk about these "missing" cues being tracked.

Just got my copy, but the liner notes don't talk about that.

Does their Apollo 13 talk about tracked music?

Okay, my bad, "Warren T. Rat / It Will Go Away" cue includes the brief statement of Fievel's theme in the middle. embarrassment

How would I go about doing this? Is there free software available that works for this?

I do all my edits in WavePad. There's also Audacity. Both are freeware.

I am agreed with Nono about about hot mastering or volume increase that reduce the musicality of the recordings.
Why a such volume increase on the new Intrada edition of An American Tail : around 6 dB more than the original MCA edition?
I don't think Maestro James Horner would be ok with this new mastering... Please keep the music alive and stop over master and mix our beloved scores...

I've not listen to the remaster yet, but I do have it.
Those Waveforms do not look bad at all. Raising the amplitude should not harm the audio as long as its kept with in its limits. This is well with in those limits. What harms the audio is dynamic compression or limiting. That is raising the quiet parts to be as loud as the louder parts.

I've ran both the original and remaster through the Dynamic Range Meter in Foobar2000 for comparison.

Despite the amplitude boost of the remaster, they both scored a 13 for Dynamic Range. And the DR score for each individual tracks where available are pretty much identical.
I think the original version needed an amplitude boost, because there are section that are so low that low resolution artifacts were audible do to the lack of bit resolution.

I haven't listened to the remaster yet but so far it looks like exactly what it needed.
