Finally getting around to listening to this one. So much good stuff left off the [awful] original OST. I don't think Horner often let himself just go loose and have fun with his music like he did here. This is good for a change.

But man, is it just me, or does the recording come across like listening through cotton balls?

This has arrived in my porch, just in time for Christmas!!
A nice Intrada box with some added Delerue and Bernstein and errr...Birenberg/Robinson (WHAT!!??) wink

I'd given up on it getting to me before Chrimbo, what with the Royal Mail strikes and all.
But old Grinchy-poo made it through.

Honey, I Shrunk The Grinch!

Bah Humbug!! smile

First play-through complete.
Absolutely wonderful score, especially for this time of year.
James Horner was the absolute GOAT at tugging at your heartstrings with gorgeously emotive music.
It just melts you.
The broad comedy scoring (VERY Honey I Shrunk The Kids) might be an acquired taste for some, but it works for the film and is endlessly inventive and packed with orchestral and percussive detail.
Great release LLL.
Well Done!!
It will be played often (this week especially).

edit...And to address the points made above mine, I thought the recording/mastering sounded great, with sparkly details and nice punch to the sound. I don't remember too many issues with the original CD (although the boot sounded bad) but I'm more than happy with this one.

I never owned this score from its initial release, but as a waning Horner fan I decided to go ahead and grab a copy. There are some nice moments scattered about, but I think it just reminds me that I'm not really a fan of Horner's more cartoonish scores or the ones where the music turns completely syrupy. I should also mention that I'm just not really a fan of Xmas-themed scores anyway.

That being said, I'm seeing this movie for the first time this Friday, it's showing here in LA, as my girlfriend grew up with this being her favorite Xmas movie!

Well, for me, this is the right side of cartoonish, unlike Casper, and syrupy, unlike Jumanji.
For a kids movie score this has, not unlike The Land Before Time, a notable calmness to it, as well as, not unlike Balto's dramatic edge, a dark gothic flair.
Carrey's song comes in a little too hot on the volume, but that's as grinchy as I can be about it.

I just saw this is now available on Apple Music (at least) for streaming.

I can't recall off the top of my head another LLL release also being put out for streaming (which I know is now fairly common for Varese and happening a bit more for Intrada).

Scarface, Love Actually and other Universal titles. But this isn't LLL distributing the albums, they are being released by Universal's music label, Back Lot Music. If you want to support these releases, please continue to buy the CDs.

Good to know; I appreciate you bringing up this distinction. Don't have to tell me twice to keep ordering from LLL/Intrada/etc. The independent record labels are a treasure.
