I wasn't familiar at all with this score (I last saw the film about 25 years ago). Not surprisingly, I'm enjoying it immensely. Elements of Wisdom and Pee Wee, with some proto-Beetlejuice mixed in. Well produced CD - very pleased with this release. I'll happily upgrade LLL if it ends up being expanded!

It was $18.02 shipped to me in the US from Rusted Wave. I haven’t noticed any sound problems, btw, as were mentioned in some pre-release posts. As somebody noted, at least one 1-minute track is missing (0:30 to 1:30 in the video linked above, if you can handle some fake gore), so perhaps there were some issues with the elements (or some baffling choices in leaving stuff off of a very short release). The album itself clearly documents a very short score that was written around pop songs. There are quite a few stingers, very brief tracks. It’s kind of a madcap Back-to-School-style score. One track has what is very clearly a demo/proto version of the “Love That Joker” commercial music from Batman. The first bonus track feels a bit like Wisdom with a whiff of Beetlejuice titles in it. The bonus tracks are nice, longer ideas that don’t line up with the final score’s material too much. There’s an annoying Easter egg of some jerk screaming at the end of the second one. It might have made some programming sense to put them in the middle of the album anyway to break up the very short tracks with some longer ideas (and to wrap the program up with the nice last track, “Tenure”). For me, this is the premiere release of an Elfman score from his most distinct period, available for a reasonable price. I see no reason to avoid buying it if you’re an Elfman fan or a fan of the movie, unless somebody were to come out and say “actually, a better version is coming out real soon, not in another 35 years”

I wholeheartedly endorse this release now. Pick it up because I really don't see us revisting this title in the future anymore. MV
