I finally got the 4K Complete Adventure set, and it's pretty much everything I've ever wanted in an ST:TMP set — the Special Longer Version is a joy to have looking this good (“Get out of here, Bones”).
But holy crackers, the Director's Edition disc looks and sounds freaking amazing. The score sounds PHENOMENAL in the Dolby Atmos mix. I had sampled the streaming version on Paramount+ when it went up, but while decent for what it is, it just can't hold a candle to the disc. This is definitely one of my favorite Atmos remixes (and I can be pretty critical of those), and it allows the score to fill up the room in the best way possible.

I popped in the DC to check it and the sound mix is even more impressive on disc than streaming or the theater. Everything just sounds amazing and beautifully balanced. The sound mix has real weight. The image is also stellar. Streaming was not the best way to see this complete restoration.
Just a note for those who get the big box: the theatrical and the SLV both have player generated alien language subtitles but are in a style close to the original. So the theatrical version in the box set is different from the first release, which had a standard default style. I am guessing this is because this is all via seamless branching so if they wanted to get it right for the SLV it had to be the same for the theatrical.

I'm loving the new Isolated Music track on the DC. VERY NICE touch to bookend cues with what appears to be Goldsmith voicing the slate numbers at the heads and stage noise for the tails.
And THAT mix sounds as good as the CD.
Very nicely produced package overall.

Is there a 1080 BD release of the new restoration? I don't have a 4K player, and I have no plans to get one. Even though my TV could definitely handle it.
Yes. I got my standard BluRay disc of the Director's Edition from Amazon for $20. I don't have a 4K player either.

I'm sorry if this has been covered here, but for those interested in the SPECIAL LONGER VERSION of the film it's only available in the STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE-THE DIRECTOR'S CUT the complete adventure 3 disc Blu-ray set. It's not available in the 6 movie blu-ray set.
And once this set it out of print, it's gone.
Also, the theatrical print isn't available as a standalone 4K disc either. Just a blu ray. So if you want the theatrical in 4K, you have to buy one of the three box sets.
I don't have a 4k set up yet, but bought the COMPLETE ADVENTURE 3 disc set for when I do, and before it's gone and goes up in price.
Same here.No 4K player as yet but I've been buying 4K movies for last 3 years. I hope I can save up for this set and the 4K player in coming months .Fingers crossed .
Yep, I got 4K Blurays as well, not yet a player. Makes no sense for me to buy "hardware" before "software". I bought my first CDs before my first CD player, and my first Blurays before I ever got a Bluray Player. I've got about a dozen 4K Blurays so far, so one day I will be upgrading a player down the road.

You guys should also get the 6 movie collection, it also is awesome.
I get the individual films because I vastly prefer the release poster art to the box set illustration. It wound up costing the same, honestly.
All the films look and sound fantastic.

I just framed the mini poster that came with the 3 disc MOTION PICTURE set and it looks great!
I know! Those extras are what keeps me looking at that set. I kinda hope it sells out before I make a decision, because I really don't need it. (Lobby cards are what I'd want up.)
