Because the Levitra thread is now closed to new replies, in response to solium's query, Wheres the pun titles?... "It's a Levitrap!" John Williams strikes again, that clever punster.

Aye. The punning tracks are getting really lame, but I'm still optimistic the score might be enjoyable. We're not prejudging the music. Just postjudging the track titles. I find MG music hit and miss, but generally more HIT than Miss. But yeah, those titles are NOT funny.

My god just listen to the music, or don't, buy the disc, or don't, enjoy the music, or don't. All the crap Giacchino gets here because people think he somehow doesn't work his A$$ off, or learned on the job more than any other composer or any of that other BS Elfman got for years, or isn't serious about composing just because you don't like WHAT he writes and he doesn't take idiot track titles seriously. Let's talk about the MUSIC. I'm sorry, but I think your irritation here is misplaced, TM. I haven't seen anybody here complain about the music (how could they?), or claim that Giacchino doesn't work hard (I have to imagine he does). I don't see how any of that is related to the one thing we do know about the score, which is the track titles. Giacchino has chosen these track titles, and I find them excruciatingly unfunny. Since they are supposed to be funny, in my opinion, he has failed in this one regard – and that's all anybody is complaining about. (Well, one person disliked the cover.) I obviously can't talk about the music, since I haven't heard it. I suppose some would call me a Giacchino "hater," but that suggests I have some extra-musical beef with him. I don't. My general indifference to his work is based on the music itself simply not resonating with me. There are exceptions – I love "Ratatouille," and "Inside Out," and really enjoy "The Incredibles." And the first couple of "Medal of Honor"s. (And for what little it's worth, I think "Spider-Man: Homecoming" and "Doctor Strange" are all right.) Look – if I chose as my user name "Farty McA$$hole, PhD" and my avatar was an animation of a man kicking a dog and laughing, you might very reasonably object – because I put it out there! I could keep saying "Why don't you comment on the content of my posts instead of my vulgar and sophomoric identity?" all I wanted, but it would be disingenuous, because it was my own choice to identify myself that way (yes, instead of with dancing pandas, which all humans love). I have absolutely no problem with jokes. Jokes are what bought my house and put my kids through school. But it's not asking too much for them to be funny, is it?

When Giacchino is on, he is on. I love his wildly fun and colorful score for M:I-Ghost Protocol for instance. But when he's not on, it can be a troublesome listening experience, sensing what he's going for but not quite achieving (Jurassic World, for me). Same goes for his puns, I guess.

"Keep Calm and Baryonyx" is genius and I'll fucking fight anyone who says otherwise. I dont get it.

He is a gifted composer who can and dares to write great melodies for symphonic scores, is capable to deliver under pressure and works perfectly together with many different directors. He deserves every job he gets, and I am looking forward to his future scores while enjoying his past ones. Sorry. Hey man!. Stop being so god damn POSITIVE!. brm

I really disliked INSIDE OUT. But then you've probably got my point by now. I'm not lukewarm towards Giacchino. I'm full-on negative to 99% of what he's done, so I'm at the extreme minus end of the scale. Thor, you really need another vacation trip to San Francisco. .Be sure to wear flowers in your hair. Bruce

Perhaps if Giacchino were more hit than miss with me I could forgive his poor puns. But mostly middling scoring makes the silly titles stick out like a sore thumb. I'm afraid he may be laughing the hardest when it comes to Keep Calm and Baryonyx, or The Apes of Wrath.

So according to Thor, who has seen the film and heard the score within that context, both are hugely disappointing. With regards to the score, one has to wonder is Giacchino brunt out at the moment? He was burnt out when he did the last one, too! Awful, start to finish. Usually I can find ONE highlight. Inside Out was great, or at least the theme and the ensemble sounded fun as hell. Tomorrowland was like John Ottman doing 2000s Horner and it had its moments, but didn't light my world on fire. He should have passed on Jurassic World and let John Scott do it, like we all had hoped.

Jurassic World was dreadful from beginning to end. Interesting comment regarding Tomorrowland which I like quite a bit. Not far off base though.
