Not quite sure why there should be a need for RC additional composers though. I guess father and son Faltermeyer are not exactly overworked with other projects.

exactly. I hope this isn’t the case of the producers not liking what the Faltermeyer’s did, and replacing most of their stuff with typical RCP droning music.

Smh.

FYI, after the Super Bowl spot aired Zimmer mentioned on Twitter that he's doing this one with Steve Mazzaro.

Not Mazzaro, but he’s doing it with David Fleming and Andrew Kawczynski

:/

Hope this doesn’t mean Harold and Florian Faltermeyer’s stuff were binned...

The moving of the goalposts in threads like these is both stunning and hilarious.

I am disappointed, though, that no one played the "I've been here longer than you" card.
Oh well, the day is still young.

And why isn't Florian credited anywhere on imdb?

new hans zimmer interview from vanity fair

So have you been spending time at your studio, or are you working at home?

No. I used to have a sitting room, a living room, but I built a studio [at home]. I was working in London until things got really bad, then I came back here, around the beginning of March. I was working on “Top Gun: Maverick” there.

Tom Cruise and that whole team was supposed to start “Mission: Impossible 7,” but they couldn’t start their movie, so they all came back, and we started playing around on “Top Gun” a bit more. In fact, I’m doing something on it today.

Faltermeyer finished with the
"Top Gun" soundtrack

"We worked on it for a good year and a half, most recently I was sitting in my studio in Baldham because of Corona, and was connected to my colleagues in the USA via the Internet," Faltermeyer told BILD. “Now the child is out of the house and I am enjoying the time in the Bavarian mountains. I'm temporarily unemployed, ”he adds with a laugh.

The start date for Christmas gives him a little stomach ache. "I hope that works. 'Top Gun' is in itself a summer film. That makes a few beads of sweat on my forehead. "

But the second part of the cinema success was again “a huge film. He and Hans Zimmer hired a real studio orchestra in the USA for the soundtrack. With trumpets, trombones and strings. “Tom wanted to get some of the themes from the first Top Gun film, such as the anthem, just arranged in a more modern way. It was great fun. A murder project that we are naturally also proud of. "

Thanks for the update, zoidar. This is shaping up more and more to be something that Faltermeyer was heavily involved in, and not just the use of his theme, or a variation thereof.

Let's hope the orchestra doesn't take too much place though. I would of course have wanted this to be a primarily electronic/rock-based score...

Zimmer & Faltermeyer.
This is what nightmares are made of.

I wouldn't want it to sound EXACTLY like the original, though. Sprucing it up with new arrangements (orchestral or otherwise) sounds like a good idea.

The trailer for the film at the cinema was great. Actual jets being flown by Tom Cruise and the actors being in actual flying planes and no CGI that made itself known. The trailer music seemed to reference the original. Looking forward to the film and hearing the score properly (and i wasn't a fan of the original film or score).

Exactly! I was really worried that Harold Faltermeyer’s involvement might be only little but the article definitely clears it up!

In fact, even Hans Zimmer in an interview with Variety says that “Top Gun 2 is Harold’s tune. I‘M really Just his arranger.”

Everyone knows it's Harolds tune. The question is if it's Harolds score...

The leitmotifs from the original Top Gun mixed with some Dunkirk style orchestral stuff would be cool! That would be the best case scenario in a "electronic and orchestra mix". The key is "some" not all. I hate overscoring.

My greatest fear: I don't want '90s Media Ventures style Jerry Bruckheimer high bravado war music with overuse of military snares ala The Rock, Tears of The Sun or Transformers.

Worst case scenario is something as boring as Dark Phoenix

I don't expect anything big...time will tell.
But one name HF is already a little intriguing ...
