Barca could only draw with Borussia Dortmund yesterday.

Man City's John Stones is out injured for four to five weeks.

Inter Milan were facing a shock home loss to Sparta Prague until a last gasp equaliser in injury time. Ex-Man Utd players: Lukaku hit the post. Alexis Sanchez remained benched throughout.

Who'll notice he's even gone? Or was even there?

It's nice the new rule of the goalie not having to play the ball outside of his box to a player has bitten Citeh and Arsenal so far. I'm sure there's been more. PLay it out from the back every time lads. I think Leicester got caught out too.

Bolton highlights were pretty good and my relatives said we actually played football for the first time in many, many years. Noice.

Totts blow a 2 goal lead away to Olympiakos, so no change there then.
Dubai in control and PSG in a thriller with Royal Madrid - 2 up to the frogs.

Juventus were my pick to win the Champions League this season, but, like Tottenham, they blew a two goal lead tonight.

PSG and Man City won 3-0. Work to do for Zidane.

Today is another footballing lesson for Joan - it's the start of the group stages of the Champions League!

And now, ANOTHER footballing lesson for Joan - today is the start of the group stages of the Europa League!

The Europa League is the second-tier competition of European club football, ranking below the Champions League.

This is the competition for the teams in Europe who didn't make the top spots in their individual leagues last season. For example, Arsenal, Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers finished fifth, sixth and seventh in last season's Premier League - so they qualify for this season's Europa League. They are the only English teams taking part this season.

There are 48 teams in total, divided into 12 groups of four, and the structure is very similar to the Champions League. Each team plays the other three teams in their group, home and away. The group winners and runners-up advance to the knockout round of 32, where they are joined by the eight third-placed teams of the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League group stage (a very odd rule). The knockout rounds continue until two teams are left, and in May they will play a final in Gdansk, Poland.

Europa League matches are always played on Thursdays.

This competition does not have the same prestige as the Champions League because, well, it's basically a competition of also rans. A lot of these teams would rather play in the Champions League (Manchester Utd and Arsenal for example). It's also been said that there are far too many teams taking part, leading to a glut of fixtures and general apathy from fans.

I won't bother listing the groups, because, let's face it, no one here is hugely interested.

France will scrap their League Cup from next season, leaving England as the only top Euro league with 2 cup competitions. It's time they dropped theirs too, or at least just have the football league teams competing in it. I don't see any reason for an extra cup competition anymore, as the FA Cup is dying as it is.

Agreed. It's a pointless competition. We've already got the EFL trophy.
