Corporate - a fairly amusing and well observed comedy about lower management drones in a corporation that sells everything from toys to weapons of mass destruction.

The Boys season 2. Really enjoyed season 1 and am expecting good things of season 2. It has a slow start in the first couple of episodes.

Ted Lasso - 4 episodes in. actually not too bad, again not that funny, but some amusing moments and likeable characters. Juno Temple is the best thing about it.

Ive tried Lovecraft country ep1.
Less message more story would be good.
Vampire monster things were interesting.

By ep2 its a confused silly mess and theyre ramming home the anti-white message with a sledgehammer. It better get better.

It hasnt. Its all over the place. Incoherent jumble frown

Yep, that is true. Ep 1 was kind of interesting. Ep 2 was absurd. Ep 3 kind of interested me, and I quit half way through Ep 4. I'm done.

Currently watching Doc Martin Season 9 which continues to be delightful.

Doom Patrol

Rather enjoyable super hero weirdness that feels somewhere between traditional super hero stuff and Legion tv series. Like Lexx it gets me watching the characters and oddness and the often ropey effects seem part of the charm.

I tried 1 more episode. What tosh. They cancel penny dreadful but make this junk? They mustve known it was directionless claptrap when they were making it.

Young Wallander

Seems just about okay. Story is about immigration and gangs, apparently being in gangs is okay if you're an immigrant because you have it tough. It looks like a poor immigrant has blown somebody's head up with a hand grenade - I'm going to guess it's not so. There's a rich white swede unvolvwd with helping the illegal immigrants, so it'll be him. Illegal immigration is fine, police are facists or okay. Everyone except the lead is English, Young wallander is played by a Swede. Definitely a show with a heavy handed message.

Finished the two seasons of PATRIOT.

It's really good and i would heartily recommend it. It has its own style in the writing and camerawork that i really enjoyed. Lots of great characters and surprising moments. Excellent acting from Kurtwood Smith, in particular. It ends just well enough that a third series it obviously deserves isn't too badly missed. It doesn't end on a very specific cliffhanger, though you get the feeling things were broadly set up. I think it's criminally overlooked. I overlooked it myself for a few years.

It has lots of nice music in it, mostly songs, and i think needledropped score as opposed to composed.

Angel (the Buffy spinoff)

The first (pilot) episode. It must be 20 years since I've watched it & I really enjoyed it. The DVD looks great, but the first season is 4x3. Let's see if I can go through the whole series, maybe two episodes a night.

Challenger: The Final Flight

Very good four part documentary on netflux about the Challenger disaster. Very heart-wrenching, and sadlythe two scumbags mainly responsible for the flight going ahead are unrepentant and never faced criminal charges.

Utopia

American version of a British tv series about comic book fans using an unpublished comic to stop a world destroying virus. It's started well with a few shocks and interesting characters and set up.

Just finished the third season of Mad Men, a great end to a fantastic season of a fantastic series. I'll start season four next year (I'm in no rush to to finish it). And just think, I wouldn't have discovered this great series if I hadn't wondered into a charity shop & bought season one for a pound, after a couple of episodes I realised what a great show this is & bought the Blu-ray box set (for a good price on eBay). I don't know what I'll be starting next week.

Brassic.

Pretty decent comedy drama following a group of Chorley-way scallies. Filmed in Bacup, apparently.

Hey Bill, the finale is really good. You will be on the edge of your seat. I can't get the search engine to work to pull up this topic. Hey, when you watch it, you may think of Star Wars.smile

I just rewatched The Tudors. My hubby hadn't seen it. Fabulous series with amazing production values.
On Starz I'm watching The Spanish Princess which takes us into Henry VIII's first marriage. It pales compared to The Tudors.

Joanie, so was that a finale they held back?
Altho it looked grim situation, It all seemed a bit too easy in the end.
To be fair, the only thing the whisperers had all along was masks n' moving the herd, it seemed obvious from early episodes that the way to counter it was to get among them in the same way.
And the whole cliff thing seemed too easy. Equally , what didnt quite ring true was half the time our humans werent making much effort to look or move like a zombie, wiv just token amount of guts smeared on coat! But none of zombies noticed.
Also they didnt seem to kill many whisperers, picked off about 8 in the crowd and that seemed to be it.

Bill, it was the finale I assume. I could be wrong. I liked it. Yes, it had flaws, but it had me on the edge of my seat. Also, it did end with a cliffhanger. Those outfits must have been borrowed from a Star Wars movie.

BRASSIC - two series were great. Highly recommended. Joe Gilgun is tremendous.

DEPARTURE - one episode of 6. Feels like someone trying to do an American style glossy programme but it feels like a bad parody because of the bad dialogue, stilted delivery, painful earnestness, troubled protagonist, dramatic music, glass and chrome sets with plenty of vid screens. It's got a poor sound mix, with dialogue often too low. A very, very poor start.

THE BOYS - finished season 2. Good ending that sets up places to go in 3.

MISFITS - A UK 5 series comedy/drama about 4 youth offenders who get zapped by a strange lightning bolt and gain super powers that they don't do much super with. Very foul-mouthed but often very funny, and Joe Gilgun is in series 3, and he's class.

The Wrong Stuff

Watched the first three episodes of NG/Warners/Disney The Right Stuff.

I found the series thus far very boring and generic. All the actors looked the same especially the astronauts. The actor playing John Glenn was distinctive enough (barely) but I kept confusing who was who. Especially the other two they focused on Alan Shepard and Gordo Cooper. It doesn't help that the characters even had similar personalities. Even the wives were generic and boring.

Compare this to the distinctive looking actors and how they played their characters in the film. You got it right away. (Who was who) And there was chemistry among the actors. The actresses who played their wives in the film were also distinctive and dynastic.

Of course another point of contention is the bland soulless score along with less than stellar CGI effects. The series isn't horrible, the acting is pretty solid and so is the direction but the episodes are bland and un-involving. They drag on certain subplots that don't really go anywhere. I didn't feel anything. No thrills, no tension, no suspense, not even any levity.

Of course its hard not to compare the streaming series to the film which I love so there's that. But really its just another lackluster re-imagining of a classic film.
