Lapel pin for the discriminating swiller who still wears something with lapels.

Well, that didn't last long.

Wine monopolies opened again this week. When they closed before the weekend, desperate, booze-thirsty Oslo people emigrated to the neighbouring municipalities where they were still open, causing record-long queues and huge crowds. So the whole idea collapsed. I guess that told the government -- do NOT mess with people's access to alcohol during a pandemic. When all bars are closed, having a drink at home is at the very least a small comfort in these difficult times, and people will do what they can to get it. Let's see how long they will stay open this time.

From memory...when we were reacting to the unknown of the coronavirus, our pubs and restaurants closed down.

When we re-opened, we had a (very enforced) distancing rule. No standing up drinking, only drinking in seats. Venues were only allowed to have a certain number of people based on size. Most only took online bookings.

It seems to have worked.

We had a minor “hard shutdown” due to a suspected “wave 2”.....which turned out to be caused by someone being paid cash in hand lying about their movements to not get their boss in trouble.

They did not shut down our bottle shops. Because they knew there would be a riot.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!

If England is a nation of shopkeepers, you make Norway sound like a nation of alcoholics!!!

According to a report published yesterday, coincidentally, in a newspaper, I read that the UK has the highest rate of alkies in the world, or in Europe, or wherever the UK is.

Well, it is, apparently. For some people it's the only thing they got left.

I'm so bored these evenings I'm tempted to have a few beers every night to relieve it but I'm trying to stave off until the weekends. Anyone else the same?

Yes, absolutely. But I vow to keep Mon-Thur alcohol-free. And Sunday is alcohol-free anyway. So Friday and Saturday get the bulk of it. Friday, mostly.

I'm never really bored, though. There's always something to watch or something to do. The only times I'm bored is when I'm wating for someone or something, like in an airport or whatever.

It has only just reached 7:00pm and I already appear to be immersed in a sherry/port/Trappist beer-induced haze!

Nice! Not a bad haze to be in.

I'm trying (for the second and last time) to host a JWFAN meeting tonight, because I promised them I would. But I'm keen to get another Cheers meeting together soon. Maybe next weekend or the one after.

For tonight, I've bought a great haul of beers, and a bottle of red wine that - for once - is not Camp. Rather an Australian Yellow Tail Pinot Noir 2019. Should be in the same family.

I'm also looking forward to this strong, 10% Imperial India Pale Ale from the micro brewery Nøgne Ø (located in the Southern town I grew up):

That looks and sounds delicious.

I really want to drop in to the JW chat tonight, but I'm having my birthday meal cooked for me tonight.... even though my birthday was in August. Long story smile Hope you have a decent turn out.

Hope to make the next cheers! Hope you're all doing well.

Will you open it up to FSM if they stand you up again, as happened last time?

I guess. But from the response on the JWFAN board, it might seem like a few will enter this time.

Classic Brit ale. Aren't you hung over from yesterday, Falkirk?

No. It was just a haze. Not a Thor-level impairment. wink

I don't even know! It's a surprise every year. But given the amount of prep that's gone into it, I'm pretty excited. I'll be sure to report back! smile
