I'll be heading to the beach in about 2 weeks and I need some advice.... Every year I go down there, the first day, I spend walking along the beach barefooted. The NEXT day, my legs feel like rocks and my feet hurt like hell, no longer allowing me to walk the beach without wearing footwear, and making rather difficult to even walk! I don't WANT to wear footwear on the beach. Is there ANYTHING I can do these next two weeks to condition my legs and feet so this won't happen again? Thanks!

The answer to avoiding strain on your legs and feet is quite simple, really: Walk backwards.

Maybe, but you have an immediate edge with women who're walking backward.

OK, enough from the clowns, Jim. Here's some serious advice. I'm not real good with visuals, but I'll try... You need to s-t-r-e-t-c-h. Try standing on your toes (not like a ballerina!) for about 5 seconds, then come down onto your full foot (both feet at once, of course). Repeat this about 8 times. Great for stretching out calves. Also, you can bend slightly at the knees, and place one leg about 1-2 feet in front of you, with that foot resting on your heel. (If one were to look at your ankle and foot from the side, it would look like a "V".) Your hands should be resting on that opposite (slightly bent) knee for support. Slowly straighten out your foot so that it lies flat on the ground and hold for 5 seconds. Repeat about 3 or 4 times. Move to the other leg/foot and repeat the stretching. If you do these each day, and especially before you walk on the beach, you should have an easier (not EASY if you don't walk everyday, but easIER!) time. Good Luck.

I appreciate all the humor, but Thanks Sis.. that's what I was looking for. also, a friend of mine suggested doing "squats", so I'll try those as well!
