Excellent thriller score, fits in with Die Hard; Dead Zone; even the chilly atmosphere of Shores Silence of the Lambs is kindred to this score.
National Philharmonic sounds terrific here, at the top of their 80s game, impeccable playing despite not having notey action music to saw through, their playing is razor sharp. Bless ya, Sid Sax!!

Got my Varese Club order - and starting with Michael Kamen´s "SUSPECT" (a score I had forgotten and not appreciated back when I had the LP) I must admit: what a wonderful suspense score this is.
Magnificent, underrated score. Glad to have it now in this pristine condition.

Great score
No. If that score qualifies as "great", then "great" has lost all meaning.
At best, it's a serviceable score that provides minor suspense and atmosphere in a move that's basically a "talky" thriller/justice procedural, albeit a good one. The individual cues barely register as music, let alone as music that needs to be heard outside its context. I like the film, which I must have seen about half a dozen times over the past 25 years - but the music has no vitality, no backbone, no energy.
Wow, I really don't miss you at all 
I had the Suspect CD - it was one of those instances where it was cast off into some used CD bin, and I kept it for a number of years but never really warmed to it. Not due to the music but due to the suite presentation. The new release was tempting, but due to strict finances it had to be passed up.

I compare Suspect to some of Shore's efforts for Cronenberg. Not a lot of thematic material, but many eerie and suspenseful textures that still come together as a terrific listening experience.
With the new track listing, it is possible for owners of the old pressing to create their own Encore presentation.

This is one of those scores that should never ever have been released in the first place.

The most Hermannesque Kamen soundtrack ever and a pure masterpiece. Needless to say a beautiful Varese Encore release with - at last! - an improved track list.

It is a terrific, moody score, and since some rain has FINALLY returned to CA, I'll be
revisiting this again. Not all film music has to be thematic 'beautiful' music - atonal or
textural scores can be just as fascinating.

Since I lean more to suites than small isolated cues, breaking them up won't endear them to me. I've always liked the movie with Cher and Dennis Quaid, and love Cher's giggle at the end. But I have absolutely no memory of the music, which, for me, isn't a good sign. But I'll try to pull it out in the next few days to see what I think of the music.
Anybody remember Kamen's music for "From The Earth To The Moon"?

In my classification there is 2 types of "great" scores.
1) When the score is great itself. This is scores that works great both in movie and solo.
2) When score works fine (great) in movie.
Sorry, that I don't explained it in previous post. I mean that Suspect is "great" score, that works fine in movie.
It's your opinion, maybe I will agree with it after I will listen actual CD.
But in any case, I love this type of Kamen's music. Unusual, sometime atonal...
I said one time that it's rather hard to start listen Kamen's scores, but if you started, you will listen it 'till the end.
So something tells me, that even after listening, this will still be "great" score.
Yes. The score builds motifs slowly and carefully and leads inexorably to a huge payoff at the end. One requires patience and attention to appreciate that type of score, but well worth the "effort".

Listened this again this evening. The score requires a patient and attentive listen, but slowly and surely the music develops from the ground up and builds to an incredible climax that makes you regret it is already over. A true masterwork from Mr. Kamen IMHO.

Most Kamen scores are like that and most grow on you if you have the patience to listen to the whole show.
