Recently another company released a score CD to the 1986 Transformers animated film (by a different composer).
Sony Music owns the rights for that one, it appears, for whatever reason. I thought Hasbro re-acquired everything that fell under their properties, but evidently not.
Well, Sony administers for the Volcano label on that one. Volcano is owned by a management company. Originally Scotti Brothers released this.
I had to bump this thread back to the top, after revisiting disc 4 today from the SUPERMAN: TAS set. Even just taken as one disc out of this set, it's a stunning listen. The thematic material, orchestration and action hooks are engaging from start to finish, especially in "Little Girl Lost" and "Legacy". That final score by Shirley Walker is really extraordinary, one of those times when I'm in awe that it was composed for a 22-minute animated episode. "Legacy" is a real highlight from this set, which is chock-a-block with highlights, and I'm so glad that LLL took the time and effort to package these scores together.
Thanks for your post, Tom! I'm thrilled to hear you're getting so much out of this release. Even as a major fan of this music from the get-go, I was blown away when the audio started coming in during the production of these discs. As someone who loves and misses the rich symphonic action/adventure scoring that was more prevalent up through the 1990s, SUPERMAN is just a treasure trove of outstanding music. The material is so big and bold, so well-executed, and developed in such a cinematic way that it's sometimes hard to believe that it was written for episodic television!
Just had pop in to one again say what I've said in different words over many years now -- what a fantastic score "In Brightest Day" from "Superman: The Animated Series" is. And that cue that opens the episode with the ring flying threw space, just terrific start to end; a perfect cue that runs various ideas as a cohesive whole.
