It's amazing to me that this music was finally more or less made available to listen to, it got 17 comments, and that appears to be the end of it. Listening to this on Friday was one of the most emotionally fulfilling experiences I've had probably since I got the multi-CD boot of Spartacus in the early '90s and got to hear all of that music outside the film for the first time. Now I'm wondering what's left to get excited about.

Maybe folks have heard the compilation elsewhere since the acetates and MFX have been around for several years. Rules on youtube and FSM usually prevent sharing such material, which doesn't meant it doesn't exist elsewhere.
Not a holy grail for me but the acetates of Herrmann's "All That Money Can Buy" exist, and might afford some excitement if you haven't heard them. Or the partial library of Harry Lubin's Outer Limits music.

Anyone trying to re-record this will have their hands full. There are many nuances that you notice upon repeat listening which add to an already profoundly entertaining score.
I was just at a hardware store and playing on the loudspeaker was a guitar version of Mitchum's signature song, "Leaning on the everlasting arms." What are the odds.
Bruce, you don't think the music/effects track on the Arrow blu-ray is music/effects? Was it a foreign language dubbing track, and that is not the same as music/effects?
I have no way of knowing what they used, only that it is unusable for CD release for the reasons you've read earlier in this thread.
Hey Bruce, by reasons stated earlier, are you talking about legal hoops - "you have to deal with Sony on the LP and then the studio on the actual tracks." Are you referring to the Laughton album? And because Sony had rights to that, that they must have a seat at the table? Even if the blu-ray MFX has nothing to do with the Laughton album? FYI if you played the blu-ray and toggle between movie and MFX audio, you can tell it is music/effects, no dialog. It is complete except for a minute in two scenes where music was reused from elsewhere.
I believe someone pointed out that there was a lot of music editing in the film and all that is reflected in the M&E tracks.

Er, he's talking about the music. Unless you mean her duet, of sorts, with Mitchum near the end.
I actually kind of missed hearing the Mitchum/Gish duet. But this is a score of such rich detail and power it just sounds like it's from another world. I love all the uses of the preacher's motif, especially as it starts playing under Mitchum's singing of "Leaning" while the character rides in silhouette on the horizon. I also noticed for the first time that the river theme plays under the scene of the boy trying to wake up the old drunk in the early part of the night chase--that's really buried under dialogue in the movie. The whole surreal approach in Laughton's direction really gave Schumann license to do amazing things with the music.
I see people of all age groups wanting this one. How do we know that right now it is being worked on ? I'll answer my own question. We don't ! Only someone in the know has the answer and that person is not saying anything at this time.
