I've been on a Mummy-score binge as of late, so I naturally gave Debney's Scorpion King a listen (and re-watched the film), and it was just as terrific as I remembered! Sure it may not be all that original, but just like Debney's own Cutthroat Island and Lair, it's an orchestra tour-de-force rarely heard now. I remember it being a big deal that he was throwing in the electric guitar with the score, but upon re-listen, it's really not that prevalent whatsoever (apart from one or two tracks). Unfortunately this was one of those Varese 30-35 min releases, and it's missing a substantial amount of excellent music from the film. Just throwing it out there to anyone who'll listen (La-la-land, Intrada, Varsese), this would make an excellent re-release. I'm always eagerly anticipating the next BIG Debney score, and since there doesn't appear to be one on the nearby horizon, now would be a great time to revisit some of his now older stuff. If you never listened to it, give it a chance. It fits perfectly with the Cutthroat Island/Mummy Returns/Stargate genre.

Really, no love for this score?? I can't be the only one... Oh I like the score too. I remember seeing an expanded version at buysoundtrax for a really long time, but it looks like its finally gone.

Just came here to revive this old thread to say I'd love an expansion of this score! Is that Intrada/Universal thing still going on? Or would Varese get in the way of that?

Considering the first two Mummy scores got expanded by Intrada, this would seem to be a good idea. Yavar

Well, it has (36 track; 93:18 [there's also a shorter version, at about 54 minutes]; no, I don't have it), but let us think of a legit version.

You sure that's not just the Mummy bootleg that has a few extra cues from Scorpion King? I have yet to come across any bootlegs for Scorpion King itself, and I have searched far and wide (and tall!) for one over the years.

Some years back I purchased (from Intrada maybe?) what was described as a "Composer Promo" of the score. It did indeed have extra tracks. Even combining the two CDs, however, leaves us short of the full score. There are 21 unique tracks between them (vs. 14 on the Varese release). I would certainly be interested in a proper release of the full score. Lots of fun to be had.
