Latest Update release date: 23 Oct. - Thu, 28 Nov. Already released in the UK, Thomas. I ordered from Silva Screen and had my copy a week ago. My local HMV store even had copies on sale on the day too! A useful compilation from the more complete Fanderson releases, but offhand I don't think there's anything new other than the Spencer Davis Group track.

That's an Amazon UK statement about the release date. Odd? Yes, it is a bit I suppose.

Simon, I get the impression you'll be able to answer something. I have in the past acquired a couple of Fanderson releases from a friend, but in the last couple of years seeing many releases I wanted did 'the decent thing' and joined the club. No sweat because I'm a fan anyway. But I'm not keen on double dipping unless it's something outstanding, and of course depending on how desperate I am for certain tracks. I just wanted to know if the last Space 1999 Season 1 release has more Barry Gray tracks than my original two disc-er, or merely more stock music. On the whole I'm happy with these original releases for the shows which also include the single dual Supercar/Fireball cd. I managed to join in time to get the super-duper Thunderbirds 4 set, the Captain Scarlet 3 set, the UFO 2 set, the single Stingray and the Doppelganger soundtrack. I'm happy enough with my Silva release of Joe 90.

I'm happy enough with my Silva release of Joe 90. I haven't listened to it for a while Paul, but generally there's more in the way of 'stock' music, extended versions of some of the library cues, a little bit more of the sitar music used in 'The Troubled Spirit', and so forth. The most recent sets which have been expanded beyond the one or two-disc format tend to have included more previously-composed Barry Gray music that was reused in later series. The other thing is that, in an effort I suppose to make them a little bit different from the previous sets, the music is edited in a way that reflects the music edits in the episodes themselves. Occasionally though it makes for a slightly odd listening experience, as what is good on the TV sounds a bit disjointed on CD and slightly affects the musicality of the music (the Wadsworth scores on the 40th Anniversary Year Two set are more affected here IMO). I've got all the expanded sets, but sometimes it's nice just to listen to a 'distilled' version, and Silva's UFO release is just that.

Another thing to add: the first Fanderson Space:1999 release had the 'Black Sun' score in mono, as at that point the multitracks hadn't been located. ISTR this was corrected when the Silva edition of the Year One score was released, and likewise when Fanderson released the 40th Anniversary set - the mono cues were swapped for stereo versions.

Thanks muchly Simon, you told exactly what I wanted. I'm perfectly happy with what I've got now. Unless I get some unexpected yearning for Four Feather Falls! Hey, it could happen. We all get those unexpected feelings about this stuff. Obviously if I get too fixated by Barry Gray's incredible music.... anything could happen. But yeah, I've noticed some stuff today actually listening to the Thunderbirds 4 set that made me thing they've cross-faded (shreeeek horror!) something here to give that 'episode order' feel. Love it though. No danger of getting upset particularly. But it does mean I actually appreciate the Thunderbirds Are Go! movie soundtrack official release (yep, complete with Cliff and the Shadows) and the La La Land release of the two 'Birds movies as much as the Fanderson releases. They all complement each other. In fact I can't think now of another fanbase that is well served to be fair.
