This noble theme is an Elmer Bernstein favorite of mine. It got desultory and truncated treatment on the Animal House soundtrack. And it seems to be sourced from a bad dub.

I have no idea what else Elmer wrote for the movie. I think there is some heroic stuff at the end when the Deltas wreck the homecoming parade, but I don't recall anything else.

I wonder what the chances are of seeing these tracks remastered and perhaps appended to a larger Elmer Bernstein soundtrack from a Universal film?

Or maybe re-recorded as part of the re-recording of another larger score? What do you think James Fitzpatrick?

No love yet for the Faber College Theme? C'mon! It's one of Bernstein's best!

Comedy is and always has been a tough sell here musicwise. Elmer always used to talk about how Landis asked him to do a straight score for this his first in a series of comedy smashes, no mickeymousing. And yet my favorite part of this is during Bluto's speech when the orchestra sounds like it is vamping while waiting for him to come up with the rest of his line. I never heard anyone do that before or after. Now that's comedy.

I'm a huge fan of the movie and Bernstein's wonderful score. I love the Bluto's pirate theme at climax.

I'd buy this score in a second if were released. The score wasn't very well represented on the soundtrack.

I recall other great parts of the score like when they are bringing the horse to Dean Wormer's office, when Bluto is watching Mandy undress, when they are running from the bar that Otis was playing at...

Crap. Now I'm bummed that a score doesn't exist! frown

It always reminds me of Bernstein's score to The Buccaneer.

I've said it before but Intrada would have a great product on their hands if they paired this with An American Werewolf in London and included the "God music" from The Blues Brothers as a bonus track - a three-for-one Landis/Bernstein album.

This is a great comedy, which is suitable for the whole family, and especially for students, I think everyone should watch it.

I think the pirate theme you mention is from the Yul Brynner film "The Buccaneer" (1958).
Anyone know for sure?

There's a great Jazzy Cue that I think would be called "Road Trip" when some of the Frat Boys venture out to that Club inhabited with beautiful women and large dangerous negroes.

Road Trip Cue. Please excuse the lousy sound (adjust volume lower), but it's great Bernstein:

Such a great scene and classic lines like "DO YO MINE IFF WE DANCE WIFF YO DATES?"

Which prompts Flounder to say "THE NEGROES TOOK OUR DATES!"

The scene. ***WARNING CONTAINS A VERY NICE EXPOSED FEMALE BREAST BEING FONDLED BY OTTER!*****

Dang Lisa Baur was hot. I worked at a movie Theater Showing ANIMAL HOUSE on it's first fun and I never missed that scene. To hell with the Popcorn and Drinks!

While perusing a box set of Bruno Walter recordings, I discovered that the "Faber College Theme" is in fact a close re-working of Brahms' "Academic Festival Overture".

Funny... I always thought that was common knowledge around here! Have to admit that I much prefer Bernstein's take on it over Brahm's original!

Which itself was almost certainly a pre-existing song.

I also think that this is one of the best releases in the world, incredible, but many students are watching this film and they like it, recently I went to the cinema for the premiere of the film and we were delighted, in general the movie brings a wide range of emotions to people, everything what the heroes of the films on the screen are experiencing, each of us would like to experience in life, I think to pay for a college essay at https://edusson.com/pay-for-essay and go into the life of the cinema, it’s stupid of me, but from early childhood I dreamed of becoming an actor and I think that’s the time fulfill my dream.
