Ed O'Neill who played Al Bundy on MARRIED...WITH CHILDREN, will star as Joe Friday on the upcoming remake of the tv series DRAGNET. It will be produced by Dick Wolf, producer of the LAW & ORDER series. So now "Psycho Dad" is "Psycho Detective"?
Hadn't read this. I'm sure the series will be written off has a worthless remake by all the critics, but I may check it out. I'm not familiar with the original (other than the theme), but I think O'Neill has displayed some good dramatic talent in other parts.
Ed O'Neil never has had any luck away from that Al Bundy role..He is not only a wonderful comedic actor as he showed in that series, but he is a talented serious dramatic actor as well..A shame he got so typcast..Comedy is the hardest to pull off, and he did it wonderfully in that series..But it's been his doom..
I agree. Some people are quick to write him off as just being "Al Bundy" all the time, but I thought he was pretty good in that short-lived series BIG APPLE (I think that was the name) playing a very different--and serious--role.
Lots of folks forget his "Popeye Doyle" role on tv in the series based on the famous cop Gene Hackman originally played in "The French Connection..I only saw a few episodes, but he was darn good...
I think the new DRAGNET has a lot of potential considering producer Dick Wolf's track record with the LAW&ORDER franchise. So far, the Bundy's have been resurrecting their careers---Al and Peg each have a new series, Kelly is a rising movie star.....but Bud was killed in THE X-FILES.
